Before & After: Our Aqua and Orange Nursery

My second baby girl is turning two pretty soon and I think two years might exceed the statute of limitations for sharing before-and-after nursery photos - so, here goes.

This photo shows the room as the previous owners had it (purple was a theme throughout the house):

This shows the room as it existed for the first year and half that we lived here (sad, I know):

We had always planned to turn this room into a second child's room, so we painted it a neutral color and just threw some furniture in there.  This was our tv/guest room before we finished the basement.

The nursery was really a labor of love.  I worked on it for several months - staying up late every night sewing the window shades, bedskirt, pillows, changing pad covers, boppy covers, diaper caddy liner, ottoman (pouf), and bunting (flag decorations), making the memo board, framed butterfly art, painting the bookcase, and surfing the web for the finishing touches.  As much as I tried to work with the neutral off-white backdrop, I just knew I wouldn't be happy with it... so, my husband was kind enough to humor a pregnant lady and paint the room a pretty aqua color.  I'm so glad he did!

After:

At the time I did this room, I hadn't seen many (or perhaps any) nurseries done in this color scheme - but, it seems to be a popular color combo these days - and I always enjoy seeing how other people have worked with these great colors.  Some lovely examples:

One of my close friends also decorated her little girl's room with orange and aqua - I can't wait to see it (and blog about it)!

  1. Lovely! The paisley print is to die for. It's cute, bright and fun but not overly sweet or childish. Great job!

  8. Thanks for the nice comments! Jessica - I made the pouf using an Amy Butler pattern that I purchased on www.fabric.com years ago. Looks like they still sell it at http://www.fabric.com/creativity-headquarters-cookout-couture-amy-butler-gum-drop-pillows-pattern.aspx?cm_vc=756b1813-cbc1-43b3-84bd-29889bf8fb7b.
