I’m not normally one to do my nails all the time. In fact, I don’t particularly like my hands and I think they’re weird looking. And I’m okay with that! Give me clear or nude colored nail polish and I’m perfectly happy. Last fall, I decided since I have a job where I dress up, that maybe I should try doing my nails a more “mature color”. Upon finding some old brown nail polish, I painted my nails! But there were two problems, a) the nail polish chipped too easily and b) my nail beds were turning yellow. WHAT? I was so disgusted and since the polish kept chipping, I just had to keep repainting my nails.
So I’ve been living with yellow nails and I cut them short whenever I can in hopes that the yellow will grow out soon. But until that day comes, I try and keep my nails painted so no one thinks I’m dying or something.
I came across a fun DIY nail project and I thought I’d give it a try! I mean, what a perfect thing to do on a cold snowy day!
What you’ll need is:
-an old newspaper
-scissors
-rubbing alcohol
-a container or bowl big enough to soak your nail in
-white, light pink, or purple or blue nail polish. basically light nail polish
note! if you have old nail polish on, go ahead and take it off using nail polish remover :)
Step one:
Paint your nails with one light coat of the color of your choice. Let dry! Paint a second coat so you have a nice even tone. Let dry again.
Step Two:
Cut your newspaper into 10 pieces. They should be bigger than your nail.
Step Three:
Soak your finger in the rubbing alcohol for about 20 seconds, making sure your finger is nice and wet.
Step four:
Place piece of newspaper on your nail. Hold for 30 seconds then take off.
note! I recommend only doing one at a time. If you leave it on for two long, it can pull off some of your nail polish.
Step five:
After you’ve done all of your nails, carefully go over them with clear nail polish to make sure everything stays.
and volia! Newspaper nails!
My right hand actually looked better than my left but it was hard to take a picture of my right hand, haha.
This is something fun you can do while you’re watching a movie or listening to music, since you have to wait a little bit when painting the nails :)

As to your yellow nails, you may want to try a base coat before you put a colour on top, as this will protect your nail from discolouration.

They came out wonderful, thanks for putting this up. I used different colors of nail polish (light green, light pink, and white) and it looks SO COOL. One of my fingers are rainbow colored.

I did this and didn’t use newspaper I just used regular paper with print on it.
I have found that it works better with voldka for some reason. Rubbing alcohol comes out a little faded like the picture

I tried this and LOVED the effect, but after a day my nails chipped really really badly. I redid them with a different base coat thinking mine was old and bad, but it happened again. Any suggestions on what to do? Should I try a different polish or top coat?

If your nail polish chips try LA Colors, I bought some & it was on my toes 4 weeks no chipping, 1 base coat 2 coats polish, 1 top coat. I’m gona try this newspaper.ThankYou_
