Eco via coastal tour
Scenery: Coastal and nature reserves
Level: Easy – Med
The Ecovia runs between the Spanish border and the western most point of the Iberian peninsular (Cape St Vicente) through the heart of the Algarve. It was well designed a few years ago and has not been given the level of maintainance required. It does however endeavor to avoid major transit areas and to keep to side roads and caminhos (paths) where available. It is possible to ride the ecovia in two days but to enjoy it at a respectful leisure then try it over 4 or 5 days. For a guided tour along the ecovia please contact us and we will put you in touch with a provider who can arrange accommodation for you
Take a rural exhale and leave the grime behind
Scenery: acriculture rural
If you are staying in the Algarve then the chances are you will be situated within the Algarve corridor between the sea and the EN125 main road. This is the most populated part of the Algarve. If however you ventured North of this corridor then you are in for a treat. Welcome to the real Algarve. Rural villages and market towns that still operate for the indigenous folk. These rustic little gems are well linked by good tarmac roads and are often very quiet. Drive through orange and lemon groves hear nothing but the sound of your own breathing.
Carvoeiro – Portimao
Scenery: Country roads and urban
Level: easy to medium
Heading west along the coast road it is less than10 km to the pretty fishing village of Ferragudo with it's fabulous beach and great restaurants. Another 3 km, and you are into the working town of Portimao, with it's marina, fishing harbour and of course the shops, bars and restaurants. Just over the old bridge, to the right, in among the cobbled streets is the area to eat fresh barbeque grilled sardines. Left over the bridge is where many of the full or half day boat trips along the coast depart from.
Albufeira – Armacão 12 – 15km each way
Scenery: Country lanes and nature reserve
Level: Medium
Take the Ecovia out of Albufeira heading west and pass through the Marina. This route takes you through the nature reserve at Salgados over the troll bridge and onto the odd looking town of Armacão (with a big fishing heart) Take a fresh grilled fish lunch at Ze Leiteiro All you can eat fish potatoes and salad for €12 (2015).
