Singtel M1 Starhub Mobile Broadband vs

Now I am paying about $100 on

  • SCV cable tv $40
  • Maxonline with digital voice $60

Now that my contract is over, I am mulling for a change.  Now with bad economic times, I am looking for a downgrade and I can get all for about $40 with Home Hubbing promo Starhub is having now.

  • Starhub MaxOnline Surflite $18.40 – 2mbps + Digital voice (Cable)
  • Home Hubbing $38.42 – 2mbps + Digital voice + TV (Cable)
  • Home Hubbing Pack $60 – 8mbps + Digital voice + TV (Cable)

However, I wasn’t eligible to the promo because I am already a subscriber.  The polite CSO told me that even if I unsubscribe now, I need to go through a “cool off” period before becoming eligible.

This is the way things are done now folks. Loyal customers are not recognised or rewarded. Only new “converts” get all the privileges and attention.  Aren’t loyal customers suppose to be loyal? They expect us to be addicted to their products and they are also counting that we all hate to make changes.

Well not this loyal customer. So here I go looking at the competition.  Now I am wondering should I switch to Singtel MIO which is offering something similar for $27. Very competitive if you consider Singtel trying to beat Starhub which is undisputed leader in digital TV, at least when it comes to soccer. Starhub has EPL while Singtel has SerieA + Champions League. (things changed. Please see my comment below)

Frustrated, I took afternoon leave and went to Starhub at Vivo City to close all my accounts. To my surprise, the CSO told me that they don’t handle termination. I have to call their hotline to terminate. Frustrated 2x, I went back and call the hotline. Told me they have to refer me to their “salvage” or “salvation” dept. After one day, I am still waiting for that call.

Meanwhile, I am also interested in Mobile Broadband and not so much the cable tv part.

Mobile (HSPA)
Most with 2 yrs contract and unlimited.

Starhub MaxMobile SurfLite $27 2mbps
$398* HP Notebook with MaxMobile SurfLite (Usual: $38.72)

  • M1 $28
  • M1 $39 with 6months contract
  • Singtel $37 but 50gb cap

I heard the endless arguments in hardwarezone about which is better but all of them are fiercely competitive.

On a sidenote, when it comes to website m1 is the simplest to navigate, Starhub has good branding while Singtel got the lowest marks from me.

  1. update : I have continued with Starhub hubbing pack and is generally happy. M1 sent me a brochure on a 6-month cable broadband for $43/10mps $58.80/30mps and $70.80/100mps. A bit more expensive than with Starhub because afterall, M1 uses Starhub’s infrastructure but they do try to make up with flexibility. Way to go M1!

  2. update : Soccer fans is jumping from Starhub to Singtel. Singtel not only won Serie A, Champions League, they also won the rights to EPL. Starhub has held EPL for 12 years! Hundreds of S$ millions are paid by Singtel to get this exclusive rights. Poor Starhub is gonna lose a lot of money. Poor Singaporeans will not watch much soccer on TV. Tough luck to those die hard soccer friends who still on Starhub contract because they have to pay the penalty if they want to switch. Damn lawyers!

  3. […] M1 sent me a lawyer’s letter […]
