Fact: London enjoys more blue skies during the winter than any other city in the UK. OK, so that might be a slight exaggeration, but you’re defi nitely at the right end of the country if staying dry is the aim. No need for hibernation, then; wrap up warm and get involved in some of the seasonal festivities on offer — from ice skating to winter walks, Paul Oswell rounds up what’s on offer (page 25).

If the weather does turn nasty, indulge in some
comfort food in one of the cosy restaurants around
the city (page 75), grab a spot by an open fi re and
try some local tipples (page 42) or enjoy a good
comedy performance (page 53), theatre production
(page 89) or live gig (page 66). Our roving reporters
have painstakingly reviewed Bill Bailey,
Fat Pig and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen for you this time. It’s a tough job…

Also in this issue, we talk to Daniel Craig about his second movie as Bond, Quantum of Solace, go shopping for a Whistle and Flute on Savile Row and take a look around west London’s Shepherd’s Bush, home of the newly opened Westfi eld shopping centre, the city’s largest indoor retail outlet with 265 shops, 50 food concepts and a cinema. Record-breaking numbers headed to the centre during the weekend of opening to see what all the fuss was about. Credit crunch — really?

See you in the spring.
