Development Language & Database
|
Abacus 21 uses Delphi™ as its primary Development Language -- and Interbase™ as its Database.
Embarcadero® InterBase®-XE3™ cross-platform embedded database raises the bar for performance and power in Database management. Abacus 21 now supports and suggests InterBase®-XE3™.
Designed for use in the absence of a database administrator or IT support (and sanctioned by the U.S. Government for Military applications), Interbase™ is powerful enough to support mission-critical applications, yet compact enough to run on very modest systems. InterBase can be easily transported by disk, CD, or even dial-up download. And, unlike enterprise databases that require expensive ecosystems of support and maintenance, Embarcadero's InterBase™ requires virtually no maintenance.
- Reduce the total cost of ownership for distributed applications lacking IT support resources
- Cost-effectively scale to address growing transactional demands
- Maintain a small operational footprint and end-user transparency
Features of Interbase-XE3™
- Multiple instances of InterBase can run on the same machine simultaneously
- Global temporary tables implement the functionality of SQL global temporary tables, significantly easing application development
- Automatic rerouting of databases allows a database administrator to set up a configuration in which some database connections can be rerouted to a different InterBase server instance on the same machine (Server Edition only)
- Server-side database alias renames a database file within the context of the server, enabling clients to connect to a database without requiring knowledge of its exact location on a given server
- Embedded database user authentication, a security enhancement in Interbase-XE3™, allows for the management of multiple databases for unrelated applications
Features of Interbase-XE3™
- Journaling and Journal Archiving, improves VLDB management, OLTP performance, and facilitates disaster recovery (Server Edition only)
- Online Dump, provides backup for seamless incremental backuP
- Batch Updates allow sending multiple SQL statements, reduces the network traffic resulting in improved performance, especially in LAN and WAN environments
- Point-in-time-recovery allows journal based recovery based on timestamps for greater recovery flexibility (Server Edition only)
- Extended International character support via Unicode(r) UCS-2 and UTF-8
Server EditionInterbase™ Server Edition features multiple instances on a single machine, offering easier deployment and a more sophisticated development environment.
InterBase™ Server Edition delivers high performance for applications with complex business logic and high concurrent user levels through its symmetric multiple processing support and multi-threaded architecture.
Its transaction monitoring facilities provide developers with granular database controls for viewing, starting, stopping, and rolling back transactions, processes, and queries. InterBase Server Edition’s compliance with SQL standards provides a familiar environment to developers well-versed in SQL databases. Through its integration with Borland developer tools and open database connectivity (ODBC), Server Edition increases developer productivity.
Desktop Edition
Interbase™ Desktop Edition is a powerful, economical deployment solution for the developers of standalone applications.
Through its integration with Embarcadero® Delphi®, C++Builder™, C++BuilderX®, JBuilder®, and Kylix® development tools, InterBase, Desktop Edition enables the rapid development of sophisticated business applications. This edition makes development and deployment easier with its comprehensive installation facilities and support for multiple concurrent instances on a single machine. With a small operational footprint, InterBase, Desktop Edition requires fewer system resources while delivering high performance. With capabilities for automatic crash recovery and online backup, InterBase, Desktop Edition is well-suited for broad, cost-effective deployments that lack IT support and administration resources.
Note: Abacus 21 uses the Interbase™ Server Edition. Our primary development platform is Delphi™. |
