Ganapati Bappa Moriya!

Located near Kalyan and is approx 1 hr and 15 mins from Mumbai, Titwala is known for the popular Siddhivinayak Mahaganapati Temple.

I’ve been visiting this temple with my family for years. A lot has changed here in the past few years. The main entrance is no longer used as the entrance. The temple premises have been extended for a systematic queue formation, which allows all devotees to offer their prayers without being rushed or pushed by each other. There is also an artificial pond constructed just outside the temple premises. This pond is surrounded by beautiful garden running around its boundary. Also one can enjoy boating in that water.

Once you enter the main room of the famous Siddhivinayak Mahaganapati your eyes will be glued at the appearance of the Lord. It feels as if he is actually sitting there in person and might talk to you at any point. This is really a divine feeling and can be only experienced by visiting this temple.

According to local legends, this temple is said to be constructed by Shakuntala devi to free herself from a curse imposed on her by sage Durvasa (known for his short temper). Titwala is also known as the birth place of Shakuntala devi – Daughter of the famous sage Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka.

You will also experience a small river running a bit farther from Titwala known as the Kalu river. The entire drive from Kalyan to Titwala will give you the country side feeling with lots of greenery and mountains around.

I’m sure you will enjoy the drive as much as you will enjoy being inside the temple.
