George's 4th Quiz Night - Nov 2015

Back for a 4th year running, George's next Quiz night will be on 21st November 2015.  This has always been a hugely popular and sucessful night thanks for our wonderful quizmaster Nick Poole!  More details to follow soon.

Harry's Sponsored Swim - May 2015

George's twin brother Harry recently took park in a sponsored swim to raise money with SMA Support UK.  Although Harry isn't directly affected by SMA, it still has a a huge impact on his life.  He swam 350 metres and has raised an amazing £3,069.62 so far!  Well done Harry, we're all really proud of you! www.justgiving.com/HelpingBuddy

George's Progress

George is continuing to do extremely well and is surprising everyone with his determination and courage.  His core strength has improved due to all his supported KAFO standing, hydrotherapy and Riding for the Disabled sessions. He is still able to self propel in his manual chair on smooth surfaces, but is also enjoying the speed and freedom of his Snapdragon chair. George loves going to nursery where he has flourished both academically and socially.  Well done George!

Pamper Evening - March 2015

Thank you to everyone who came along to George's Pamper Evening in March. It was a lovely event which raised just over £600 for The George Lockley Fund. Thank you to Catherine Dyke-Price for all your help organising and bringing along your Stella & Dot Jewellery. Thank you also to all the beauticians who came along, especially Ruby Simz Beauty Temple.

Gap Kids Modelling - Oct 2014 - Feb 2015

Well done George! He won his catergory in the Gap Kids Class of 2014! George was just one of four winners chosen from the UK.  His photos were in Gap Kids store windows across the UK, America and Canada.  Great awareness for SMA!  George loved the whole experience and was his usual cheeky confident self during the photoshoot.  There are some photos on his Facebook page 'aboutgeorge.co.uk'

Quiz Night Number 3 - Nov 2014

George's Quiz on 22nd November was another successful event hosted by the wonderful Nick Poole.  Thank you to everyone who came along and donated so generously to George's Fund.  We raised a huge £3452.  We had some fantastic raffle and auction prizes and would like to thank the following for their generosity: Kayyor Rao, GFI Holdings, Peter Merry, John O'Gaunt Golf Club, Simon Morgan, Claire Curtis, Ruby Simz Beauty Temple, John Lewis, Hanbury Manor, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Arsenal FC, Manchester United, Woburn Safari Park, Paradise Wildlife Park, Willows Activity Farm, Lee Valley Park Farm, Caroline Smith, Edward Holland Hairdressers, Eleanor Jardine, Mayhem Paintball, Andrew Mangan, Top Golf, Epping Bookshop, Beauty Therapist Melanie, Natural Beauty Digswell, Natalie Carter, Garry Hill & Cakey Makey.  Thank you also to Mary Fenton for knitting the Christmas novelty items and to Cakey Makey, Lois Lockley & Amy Jones for baking the delicious cakes.

George’s progress - May 2014

George and Harry have recently turned 3 and they both enjoy attending pre-nursery together.  George is doing extremely well and is benefitting greatly from his weekly hydrotherapy sessions at Keech hospice.  He is able to move freely in the water and he can now swim small distances supported only by a float.  This is great exercise for George.  He has also started taking Salbutamol syrup which has improved his arm strength slightly.

At his latest physiotherapy appointment at Great Ormond Street, George was cast for a pair of KAFOs.  With these on his legs, George can now stand for short periods of time without the support of his frame.  Standing like this is great for maintaining a good posture, and also has numerous other health benefits for George.  Fortunately George loves wearing his KAFOs and is making great progress with them.

George has recently started Riding for the Disabled.  His confidence is growing every week and he has become very fond of a horse called Albert.  Horse riding is great exercise for George’s core muscles.

There are some photos of George standing in his KAFOs and riding on Albert the horse on his Facebook page ‘aboutgeorge.co.uk’.

Panthera Bambino - November 2013

Thank you to the local charity ‘Wheels for Martin’s Friends’ who generously purchased George this fantastic lightweight manual wheelchair.  George loves his new Panthera Bambino and is brilliant at manoeuvring it around at home and at pre-nursery.  George had outgrown the Panthera Micro which had previously been donated by Beatrice Howden and family.  The Micro has now been passed on to another little boy who also has SMA type 2.  We hope that it provides him the freedom and independence that it gave to George.

Quiz Night - 28th September 2013

Thank you to everyone who came along to George's Quiz Night.  Not only was it brilliant fun, but we managed to raise a massive £3,724.50 for The George Lockley Fund.  We would like to thank Nick Poole for hosting the evening and Caroline Smith for helping to organise the event.  We would also like to thank Mary Fenton and Lesley Walton for all their hard work and preparation.
We had some excellent auction and raffle prizes and would like to thank the following for their generosity:  Hasbro, Tesco, Boots, Sainsbury's, Waterstones, Tottenham Hotspur, Hanbury Manor, Molton Brown, Lush, Legoland, Linklater Warren Ltd, Epping Bookshop, GFI Group, Lee Valley Park Farms, Peter Merry, Kayyor Rao, Simon Morgan, Garry Hill and Esther & Jeremy Penn.  Thank you also to Natalie Daly at Cakey Makey Heart, Anna Poole, Lois Lockley and Hayley Goldsworthy for baking the delicious cakes.

Alex and Lesley Hetherington

Happy 25th wedding anniversary to Lesley and Alex Hetherington!   Alex and Lesley (and family) played a huge role at George's fundraising ball last year and kindly supported George again at their anniversary celebrations by donating the proceeds from the casino to George.  Thank you.

Anna Lockley & Daniel Poole

George's Auntie Anna and Uncle Dan got married on 20th April 2013. Instead of wedding gifts they asked their guests to donate to the George Lockley Fund.  We would like to thank them for their incredible generosity and kindness.  Their guest's donations were gratefully received and will help fund some of the specialised equipment that George still needs.

George's Snapdragon

George now has a Snapdragon powerchair!  Thank you again to everyone who worked so hard, and donated so generously to make this possible.  George's friends Charlie Bolton and Mackie Reed also have SMA type 2 and their lives have been transformed since getting their Snapdragons.  We are looking forward to seeing George enjoying his new found freedom.

The Grim Challenge

In December 2012, some of George’s family and friends are taking part in the ‘Grim Challenge’ to help raise money for his power chair. This is an 8 mile off road run/crawl/wade through the army vehicle testing tracks in the wintery weather. To sponsor them please visit: www.justgiving.co.uk/George-Lockley

Thank you to Caroline Smith and Nick Poole for organising the evening and making it so successful. We would also like to thank Buckhurst Hill Baptist Church for the use of their Church Hall.

We would like to thank Beatrice and her family for giving George the opportunity to have a manual wheelchair.  Beatrice also has SMA type 2 and uses a special lightweight manual wheelchair to move independently around the house.  Beatrice has outgrown her first chair and has kindly donated it to George.  We were told that George's arms would never be strong enough to use a manual chair, but thanks to Beatrice, George can now propel himself around our house in her old chair.  For more information about Beatrice please visit www.getbeatricemobile.org
