Matam Phosphate
Afcor’s newest project involves the acquiring, shipping of and implementation
of a Phosphate Granular plant. The plant, designed and manufactured in South Africa,
was sourced by Afcor according to the requirements of the Senegalese government.
The plant was placed in full operation in Vereeniging in South Africa for 48 hours
for Afcor and SERPM to fully inspect the plant and its capabilities.
Everything went down without a hitch and so the plant was disassembled and shipped to Senegal.
The plant arrived a couple of weeks later and was immediately transported to the operating site
just outside the town of Matam approximately 700km from Dakar. Afcor send 5 engineers from
South Africa to assemble the complete plant, to put it into operation and to competently train the
new operators.
The plant manufactures up to 120 tons of granulated phosphate per day and can due to its modular
design easily be upgraded to produce higher levels in the future should the need arise.
This partnership between Afcor and SERPM, from the Senegalese government, is a proud
section of Afcor’s business portfolio in West Africa and in Senegal.
“Senegal is West Africa’s business central…” as described by Afcor
President Mr. Johan van der Westhuizen: “it wasn’t too hard to convince my board
to invest in this project and for them to see this great opportunity for prosperous long term business in Senegal.” “we are very proud of this project…”
The plant will officially be opened by Mr. van der Westhuizen and Director General
of SERPM, Mr. Eugene Faye, with some talk of Pres. Wade himself cutting the opening
ribbon…
