Charles Burrell Visual & Performing Arts school celebrates musical legend.

CBS Denver shines light on the impact music is making on students participating in The Charles Burrell Visual & Performing Arts Campus' Digital Music Production studio. 😎🎧🎤 Aurora Central Trojans

He’s 103 years old and has a school named after him in Aurora.

Charles Burrell made history when he joined the Colorado Symphony in 1949.

The Aurora Public Schools magnet school named in honor of Burrell will carry on the tradition of music and arts.

ACHS/Charles Burrell has completed Phase 1 of our Construction and we wanted to share some images with our community. Our goal during Phase 1 was to provide spaces for our students and community members to be creative and innovative in their classes.

Take a look at these spaces, and please know that we are currently in Phase 2 of our construction and will provide photos when that phase is complete.

CONGRATULATIONS TO the 2023 Colorado League Boys Soccer Champions...

National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony

National Honor Society (NHS) participated in the year-end induction ceremony on April 26. NHS honors Leadership, Character, Service, and Scholarship in its members. This ceremony honors and recognizes the hard work of NHS at ACHS, including over 800 hours of community service, an incredible feat! Students inducted join acclaimed actors, astronauts, senators and members of congress, professional athletes and coaches, along with olympians, professors, judges, and journalists. NHS seniors received purple cords to be worn with their graduation robes that honor their achievements. ACHS is proud of our 42 NHS inductees!

Congratulations to Aurora Central for your success during the 2022-23 Denver Urban Debate League competition season. We were thrilled to return to fully in-person programming this year and almost 300 students from sixteen schools competed in DUDL's debate and competitive speech events. Coach(es) Danny Nguyen and Christy Derr did a phenomenal job and students from Aurora Central received the following awards this season. We hope you can find a way to celebrate their hard work this year. Thank you for all you do to support speech and debate at your school. We look forward to partnering with you again in 2023-24.

SPEECH AND DEBATE AWARDS

Policy Debate: In policy debate, students compete in pairs against pairs of students from opposing schools. At tournaments, each team debated three rounds that lasted 1.5 hours each. The debated topic: The United States federal government should substantially increase its security cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in cyber security.

Policy debate is a rigorous and evidence-intensive debate format.

Speech: DUDL's competitive speech includes individual speaking events like Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory, Poetry, and Drama where students perfect their persuasive and creative writing skills, as well as speaking and performance skills.

Student Congress: In Congress, the students got to participate in a mock legislative session using parliamentary procedure. Legislation is prepared by the students in advance of the tournaments and students debate the merits of the legislation presented.

CHARLES BURRELL SCHOOL RENOVATION

BURRELL ARTS GRAND OPENING

Aurora Central awarded ramp designation!

The school counselors of Aurora Central High School are thrilled to announce that we were awarded the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). There are only 428 current schools across the US with this distinction! With over 125,000 public and private schools in the US, Aurora Central High School is part of a group of less than 1% of schools! Aurora Central High School is the only current school in APS with this honor.

The RAMP designation recognizes schools that are committed to delivering an exemplary school counseling program. Research findings indicate that fully implemented school counseling programs are associated with an extensive range of positive student educational and behavioral outcomes.

The Aurora Central High School school counselors were able to succeed thanks to the unwavering support of Jesse Vigil, Assistant Principal, and Angelique Green, Assistant Principal. Also thank you to Ann Atencio, District Mental Health Support, for supporting and reviewing portions of our application. As well as Roxanne Paguio, AC counselor and past department chair, for being a leader in our application process for the past three+ years.

We hope that our commitment to our students, professional standards and ethics, and positive outcomes continues to shine through.

Love,

AC Counseling
