What is Canyoning and why choose us?

Canyoning has got to be one of the best extreme, adrenaline fuelled activities that the Lake District has to offer. If you haven't tried canyoning before, you're in for a treat! We have been running Canyoning in Coniston for 23 years and our chief instructor Dave, (lovingly called the old man of the gorge) has been running canyoning for 33 years this year!

Canyoning with
Adventure
21
is a mixture of sliding, swimming, climbing, jumping down waterfalls, jumping off cliffs and high banks into deep plunge pools. Its a real adrenalin rush.

The session starts with a short gorge scramble up to the canyoning venue where the adrenalin really starts pumping! We operate in Church Beck in Coniston which is the most accessible venue in the Lake District and a  very short walk from our private changing cabin. This means once parked up and changed, you get the maximum time doing the activity. Give us a call and we will describe the venue to you and work out what will suit you or your group the best.

What's the difference between canyoning and gorge scrambling? canyoning is going down the gorge, instead of climbing up so its mainly cliff drops, boulder jumps and slides into deep pools and its a little more extreme and a real adrenalin rush!

Our instructors will give you all the help and encouragement you need to get you through. We think canyoning is the ultimate adrenalin rush! there really is something for everyone in your group so if the big jumps are a little too much then there are always smaller options.

As with all activities specialist equipment, helmets, ropes etc are provided but with the added comfort of a wetsuit, waterproof trousers and waterproof jacket, all you need to bring are a full change of clothing including shoes or boots with a good grip on the sole.

Reviews for Canyoning

Sarah Sheffield,

Great canyoning experience with a brilliant instructor
Aug 2022
My partner and I recently went canyoning with Adventure 21 and we would 100% recommend them to anyone visiting the Lake District! Neither of us had tried canyoning before and were a little unsure what to expect - our instructor eased us in gently, starting in smaller pools and lower jumps, gradually building up to small sections of bouldering, climbing up and off of waterfalls and jumping into deep plunge pools. We were with one other couple and had a really good laugh, whilst also enjoying the beautiful views over Coniston. Would definitely go back in the future to try other activities! It was helpful having a cabin to change in and to leave any valuables as other places we had checked out didn't have any facilities available. Looking forward to seeing the photos soon! :)

Me and my partner booked in for a morning activity of gorge scrambling and canyoning and what an experience it was. We had a great laugh and enjoyed the little games our instructor Paul had us do. Paul also explained things and showed us the safest routes to take he was very friendly and patient towards us. We also appreciated the photos Paul took while on the experience. I would 100% recommend this activity.

Amazing, definitely recommend

Brilliant morning gorge scrambling and canyoning. Started off meeting at the lake which was easy to find paul took us to the changing room where we got changed into clean and dry wetsuits. We then had a short walk uk to the beginning of the gorge which wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be, we scrambled up the river, swimming in pools and climbing up waterfalls which was amazing. The last bit was the canyoning where we were pushed out of our comfort zone jumping off and sliding down rocks into deep pools which I'm so glad I eventually pushed myself to do. Paul was very friendly and patient with us would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great energetic morning out.
