Take A Look at Disney

Can We Talk about Tangled Ever After

Disney, why?   Tangled is one of my favorite films in recent memory, it was just perfect, why do you feel the need for a follow up?  Oh excuse me, sorry about that. Yes, you read right Disney is making a follow up to Tangled.   This isn't a revival of the direct-to-video sequels (thank the lord)   but rather  just a short that will feature the characters from Tangled.   This short while having been rumored for a while was officially announced  at this year's D23 and will air in the spring of 2012 on Disney Channel.   I don't know, it just doesn't feel like a good idea and even though very little about this short is know, I still wish to share my thoughts on it.

As I have stated many times before I loved Tangled.  All of the characters and songs were enjoyable.   With my favorite character being Rapunzel herself and my favorite song is When Will My Life Begin.  And this is where my problem comes in.   Many a time, I have been scorned by the sequels because they flat out suck and  now knowing that Disney is working on a short that will serve as a sequel  to Tangled, let's just say I have low hopes for this short.

While plot details haven't officially been been released, I have heard that this short will focus around the wedding of Flynn and Rapunzel.  While a nice thought, I just don't see the need for them to actually show this because as with most Disney films, the story was very self contained and left little for a sequel.   It really just feels like a cash grab using the characters of Tangled.  Though thankfully, this won't be a full  direct to video sequel. Therefore it won't be too long with it being a short and all.

To the short's credit,  it does look as though they are staying in line with Tangled....  for the most part.

Why the heck are The Stabbington Brothers on the poster if in the end of Tangled, they were arrested for their acts .    I don't exactly think they would be attending the wedding for that and also let's not forget they weren't on the best of terms with Flynn because they oh you know tried to kill him.   I will say this it is nice to see that they decided to let Rapunzel keep her short brown hair and not same lame excuse to bring her blonde hair back.   I just realized that her brown hair actually makes her look older but I still prefer her when she had the blonde hair.  I just don't think she looks as good with brown hair.

Now let's go back to the poster for a second. That thing is just cluttered. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Tangled poster  (the one I saw anyways)  it wasn't as cluttered as this one.

Looking at these two posters side by side, I have to say that the Tangled poster is the better poster. Even if this poster is my favorite Tangled poster.

The posters while going off topic, this new one just doesn't give me much hope as it feels wacky whereas the one above actually feels as though it sells the romance of the movie well and  the first one sells the adventure angle quite well.     Also is it just me or does this remind anyone of a certain green ogre?

Though I will say that even if the poster does make me think of Shrek,  that isn't really fair because the trailers for Tangled made me think it was going to be a Shrek knock off but I was proven wrong and perhaps with Ever After, I'll be proven wrong again.

Now it probably isn't fair to talk about this because as stated this will not air until springtime 2012 on Disney Channel but my expectations in all honesty are set kinda low because even though it isn't a direct-to-video sequel, it's still a semi sequel and Disney sequels usually aren't very good. However if I look at it as a short it could be good and follow up shorts to films  have been good on occasion.  For example Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation which played before Cars 2 was pretty good

Now just as with this Toy  Story short, I'm thinking that Disney got the cast of Tangled back and if so that will be a nice touch but still I just don't see the need for it.   That's my main problem with not just this but all of the sequels. There is no need for them to exist.   They serve no purpose in the grand scheme of things.   I may just be getting worked up over nothing but I'll just have to wait and see

In the meantime, I'll just stick to the first Tangled film and go from there but believe me when this short airs and if it is put on Demand, there will be a review just as I plan to review the pilot episode o 7 D's.  We'll come back to that show another time but let's just say it involves the Seven Dwarfs and will air on Disney Junior.

Year One Poll Update

Don't forget there is still time to vote for the One Year Anniversary article.  Here is where the polls stand right now.  Tangled is in the lead with 2 votes,  Top 6 Heartwarming Disney Moments and Mickey's 60th Birthday each have 1 vote.
