AutoCAD 2011 : Serious Lag Time before HATCH EDIT ribbon appears after selecting hatch in dwg

Source: ADSK Tech Support.

I understand that when using the HATCH command in AutoCAD 2011, the program hangs for some time before the hatch ribbon appears.

We are currently investigating this issue with AutoCAD 2011 as there does seem to be a problem with the new Hatch feature in the program. The hope is to have a fix included in the first update for 2011, but, unfortunately, there is no time frame on when this will be released.

As a workaround, please do the following:

Set HPQUICKPREVIEW = 0
Set HPDLGMODE = 1

Go to the Selection tab in Options, click the “Contextual Tab States” button at the bottom (under Ribbon Options), and then select “Do not switch to contextual tab on selection.”

Additionally, you might also consider doing what is detailed on this web page:

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

I tried this, and am still having serious problems. It would seem that even though the hatch editor tab on the ribbon does not come to the foreground, it still has to appear on the ribbon, and this alone is causing lag. I do not want to lose the new functionality of the hatch ribbon, and I’m sure I found a way of sorting this out on another machine I was using until last week. Any more suggestions?

    • there is a link to product updates in this post. there are 6 ribbon related fixes, and 6 hatch related fixes listed in the readme. These fixes do not specifically mention they caused lag time, however they may have been the root cause for it. Please verify you have applied this or not.

the general question of improving performance is too general a query to address.
it addresses topics not limited to OS, 32 or 64 bit, Hardware, RAM, Graphics Card, Software.
we have a post called “AutoCAD from an Autodesk Discussion Board” there are some software settings you can try.
