Enjoy a magnificent expedition that will take you to discover the
fascinating and marvelous natural beauties of Patagonia and Tierra
del Fuego. The size of this cruiser, which holds a maximum of 129
passengers, assures you of a warm and family-like environment which
will enable to you enjoy a journey that has the interests of each
one of our passengers at heart.
During the crossing, we will relive the history of the fantastic adventures.
Sailing across channels, bays, fjords, glaciers, snowy peaks, islands
and forests of breath taking beauty, you will discover the imposing
of adventure seduces you; you will have the opportunity to get close
to the glacier in zodiac boats or to walk along paths though forest
of native species.
With a range of 3 or 4-night packages from October to April each year,
you will be able to sail through the Strait of Magellan and Beagle
Canal sightseeing fjords, bays, glaciers and islands, between the
Chilean city of Punta Arenas and the Argentine city of Ushuaia, in
Tierra del Fuego. In people of these faraway lands lived, the Yamanas,
Onas, Alacalufes and Tehuelches.

DAY 01
Sat PUNTA ARENAS - MAGELLAN STRAIT |
From 1
p.m. to 5 p.m., passengers check-in at Magallanes 990, Punta Arenas.
Between 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., boarding "Mare Australis" expedition
cruise ship. The crew, headed by the Captain, will welcome you aboard
for cocktails with your cruise companions. Immediately after, the
ship will depart towards the city of Ushuaia, through the mythical
Strait of Magellan, sailing through the Patagonian Channels and around
Tierra del Fuego. The beginning of a great adventure. |
DAY 02
Sun AINSWORTH BAY - MARINELLI GLACIER - TUCKER ISLET |
With the
first light of dawn, navigation continues through Almirantazgo Fjord.
We will disembark in Ainsworth Bay near Marinelli Glacier, where we
will take a walk to see an elephant seal colony closely and we will
also appreciate the Magellan Forests. During the afternoon, we will
approach Tucker Islet on board zodiac boats to admire a small colony
of Magellan Penguins. We will also see other bird species such as
Skuas and Cormorants. The presence of dolphins and sea lions is also
likely. |
DAY 03
Mon D'AGOSTINI FJORD & GLACIER - SERRANO GLACIER - CONDOR GLACIER |
Early morning
finds us by the D'Agostini Fjord where we can appreciate the Serrano
Glacier and later the D'Agostini Glacier. We will disembark in Cóndor
Bay, close to the Cóndor Glacier. Here we will enjoy a short
walk through the native forest and an excursion by boats. After boarding
again, the ship will sail through the Magdalena and Cockburn channels
towards the Beagle Channel. |
DAY 04
Tue BEAGLE CHANNEL - YENDEGAIA BAY - PUERTO WILLIAMS |
Sightseeing
of Garibaldi Glacier and, the impressive snow-covered mountains of
the Darwin Range. Disembark at the coast of the Garibaldi Inlet to
take an adventurous excursion where we will appreciate the wild vegetation
and forests on the slopes of the mountains of the region.
Sail along the north-west arm of the Beagle Channel where the majestic
"Glacier Alley" can be appreciated. Land at Puerto Williams,
located on the Navarino Island, where there is an interesting anthropologic
museum, a naval base and one of the last representations of sub-Antarctic
vegetation. |
DAY 05
Wed USHUAIA |
Early arrival
to Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean city on Tierra del Fuego
island and the southernmost city in the world. Disembarkation after
breakfast, from 9 a.m. onwards. Our great adventure ends. On this
day, those passengers who took the Punta Arenas-Ushuaia sector option
disembark and new passengers embark between 16.00 and 18.00 with destination
to Punta Arenas. |

DAY 1 Wed
USHUAIA |
Check-in
at 245 San Martín Street, Ushuaia (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
And embark on the "Mare Australis" expedition cruise ship
from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The crew headed by the Captain will welcome you aboard for cocktails
with your cruise companions. We will set sail to Punta Arenas navigating
through the Beagle Channel and the Patagonian channels. We begin a
great adventure.

DAY 2 Thu
CABO DE HORNOS - WULAIA BAY |
Navigation
through the Beagle Channel and Murray Channel to disembark at the
Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn) National Park, weather permitting. We will
visit Horn Island to get a panoramic view of the famous and mythical
Cape Horn, the place where the Pacific and Atlantic oceans merge and
the last promontory of South America. Disembark at Wulaia Bay, a historical
indigenous settlement with places of high archaeological value. Additionally,
this place offers a very beautiful visual spectacle due to its vegetation
and geography. |
DAY 3 Fri
PIA GLACIER & BAY - COCKBURN CHANNEL |
We will
sail back across the main branch of the Beagle Channel to disembark
in front of Pía Glacier. We will take a short walk to an observation
point where we can also see more examples of the area's vegetation.
The glacier and the array of icebergs can be seen in all their glory.
This glacier's source is in the middle of the Darwin mountain range
and reaches the sea at Pia Bay.
After this unforgettable experience, we will continue navigating through
O'Brien and Ballenero Channels, Bahía Desolada, Paso Aguirre
and Cockburn Channel. |
DAY
4 Sat MAGDALENA ISLAND - PUNTA ARENAS |
Early
in the morning, in the Strait of Magellan, we will disembark in Magdalena
Island, the home of an enormous penguin colony with over 120.000 specimens
in different stages of development. We will take a walk to the lighthouse,
which was used to guide the exploring sailors on their way across
the Strait of Magellan. After our visit we will arrive to Punta Arenas,
where passengers may disembark from 11 a.m. onwards. Our great adventure
ends. |

The Mare
Australis has 63 exterior cabins 161 sq ft. each (doubles).
Cabins are classified in 3 categories depending on location in the
ship: AA, A and B.
A Cabin: 12 available, located on the second deck towards the
back end of the vessel.
2 have one double bed and 10 have two twin size beds (1.2 meters wide).
AA Cabins: 45 available Distributed among decks 2, 3 and 4.
8 have one double bed and 37 have two twin size beds (1.2 meters wide).
B Cabins: 6 available, located on the first deck.
They all have two twin size low beds (1.2 meters wide) plus additional
high berth increasing its capacity to a triple in three of them. |

Close
to wear: we want your stay in our cruise ship to be comfortable.
For this purpose we recommend casual attire both for women and men.
Summer nights and sometimes even during the days the Magellan climate
is cold. We recommend sweaters, jackets, pants and rain garments during
excursions. For exploring and walking, gloves, a pair of firm shoes
or boots are suitable. |

A shop
on board: Our ship has a nice shop on board. There you will find
exclusive designs in sports wear, souvenirs and different gift items,
specially created for Mare Australis. |

Check
in and Embarkation: Check in stars every Saturday at 1 p.m. until
6 p.m. in Cruceros Australis office in Punta Arenas. Boarding time
is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Departure is at 8 p.m. The embarkation
stars every Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. directly on board at
Ushuaia's harbor. Departure is at 8 p.m. Passengers must be on board
at least one hour before the departure. |

Cruise
Conditions: Rates includes accommodations, transportation and
all the food and entertainment on board. Incidentals such as alcoholic
drinks and beer, cigarettes, stamps and souvenirs are not included.
Photos taken by our own ship's photographer, medical attention, excursions
in Ushuaia, Puerto Williams and tips will be considered as an extra
expense. |

Medical
Services: There is a doctor on board. If you require medical attention
this will be considered as an additional charge. We obviously desire
that you do not require this kind of service. |

Climate:
During summer months temperature goes from 42' to 68' Fahrenheit. |

Tips:
Tips are at the discretion of the passenger. We suggest US$ 8 per
day per passenger, to be paid in cash on the last day of cruise. |

Valuables:
Cruceros Australis is not responsible for any loss of money, traveler's
checks, jewels or other valuables. For your comfort we have a safety
deposit boxes in each cabin. |

Passports
& Visas: Each passenger is responsible for the necessary documents
to enter Chile and Argentina.
Citizens of the Unites States and Canada only need a valid up-to-date
passport to enter either Chile or Argentina. |

Insurance:
The responsibility of Cruceros Australis for the losses or damages
is limited to the passage contract. We recommend you to check on your
personal insurance policy. |

Passage
Contract: The acceptance of your passage involves the agreement
of the terms and conditions of Cruceros Australis for the transport
of passengers. |
|
Deposits
& Payments: We require a deposit of US$ 200 per person to
guarantee a written and confirmed reservation. The final payment must
be received 45 days before the departure date. Total payment has be
done 90 days before the departure of the cruise in Christmas &
New Year departures. |

Cancellation
Penalties: From the moment that Cruceros Australis received a
cancellations notice the following penalties will be applied:
" Until 45 days before the trip US$ 200 per person
" 44 - 30 days before the trip 75% of net value will be refunded
" 29 - 15 days before the trip 50% of net value will be refunded
" 14 - 00 days before the trip No refund will be possible |

WILLIAMS BY BUS |
The highlight
of this tour is your tour guide; an antrophologist specialized in
the area. From the port we drive to the museum where interesting pieces
of the Yamana culture are kept. Afterwards we will make a short outing
to the native forest, one of the last cold jungles of the planet.
During the excursion we visit a place where the Indians use to perform
a "kina" ceremony, observe prehistoric deposits of shells
and a picturesque dam built by the beavers. We finish our tour visiting
the downtown area of Puerto Williams.

2) OVERFLIGHT
TO THE MYTHICAL CAPE HORN |
The transfer
takes us in a 10 minutes ride to the airport where we board a twin
otter plane. With a maximum of 20 passengers and a minimum of 14 we
will reach the Cape Horn, the southernmost spot in the American
continent legendary among sailors. After a few turns over the cape
we will return to Puerto Williams after one hour flight.

1) VILLA
MARINA |
Departure
from the city to the lake's area, traveling towards nor-east. The
first stop will be in the Carvajal Valley to observe the Alvear Mountains
and a Glacier Valley. Next stop will be in a winter resort to see
and play with the Siberian huskies dogs. Finally we will drive up
the Garibaldi Pass to reach 480 meters above sea level. Afterwards
we walk down 3.5 kilometers to the coast of the Escondido Lake where
Hosteria Petrel is located. We follow national route 3 to reach Villa
Marina Resort. There will be a lamb barbecue lunch at the place where
an old sawmill was located. After lunch we will have time to do our
last trekking to the coast of the Fagnano Lake. After the trekking
we have 1:15 hour drive back to the city of Ushuaia.

2) NATIONAL
PARK AND LUNCH BARBECUE |
The reason
of this tour is to give you a different view of the National Park.
It is a combination of a conventional tour with a lot of trekking
with a specialized guide. Depart from the port at 09.00am to the southwest
end of the national route number 3. The first footpath is "Pampa
Alta", with an extension of 2.5 km. At the end we will have the
best view of the Beagle Channel, Ensenada Bay, Navarino and Host Islands.
We walk an evergreen forest and see a beaver's dam. After a short
stop at the Roca Lake we continue to Laguna Negra Path. This path
is about 850 meters walking on top a community of peat moss. This
path connects with "Las Lengas Little Road", about 800 meters
long to Lapataia Bay.

3)
NATIONAL PARK WITH TRAIN |
Following
the National Park route number 3 towards southwest we will arrive
to the railway station to take the train of the end of the world.
We ride the train for 45 minutes to reach the station at the park.
Then we ride the bus to visit: Roca Lake, Ensenada and Lapataia Bay
inside the National Park Tierra del Fuego. We will return to the port
at 07:00 pm

4) FULL
DAY LAPATAIA |
The National
Park with Train can be taken as a full day. Departure is from the
port at 09:00am in a panoramic catamaran to the Island of the Birds
and Sea Lions back for a barbecue lunch in a typical restaurant will
join a 2:30 pm the National Park with Train excursion.
