Replacement of rotten planks and timbers

Rotten planks are one of the most common boat repair problems. We’ve got plenty of experience dealing with them and can make a high standard of repairs to rotten planking sections in any wooden boat- clinker, cavell, and plywood hulled.

We can also replace steamed-in oak and elm timbers with new ones of equal of greater quality.

New stems, stern posts, rudders, and transoms

We can remove old or damaged wooden boat sections and replace them with new ones. A new stern post is a pretty big boat repair job, but we can also re-varnish the boat and make sure all the marine carpentry on the boat matches so nothing looks out of place.
All the replacement woodwork (including new wooden rudders) will be made using the highest levels of skills and experience.

New cockpit seating in teak and cockpit soul boards in Iroko
Job came in to renew cockpit seating and cockpit soul board in 32foot fibre glass yacht. Old wooden seating arrangements were removed; patterns were made to outside sizes of all five sections of cockpit. These were taken back to workshop and timber ordered. Six millimeter Robins Elite ply was cut to pattern sizes and marked out to show position of edge cover boards and 45 millimeter teak planking strips.

Twelve millimeter Teak stripped decking was chosen, mitres were cut in boundary and opoxy glued to 6 milimtre ply. The interior of the seating section was then lined out with 45 millimeter strip planking and glued in. Sikaflex 291 deck caulk was used to fill joints in planking. The completed seating sections were then glued into place on yacht and internal edging belting fitted into cockpit well edge. Belting was molded to fit snugly behind knees.

Cockpit soul boarding was constructed from Iroko planks routed round on plank edges. The boards were then copper riveted to bearers and finished. Soul boards were installed in boat and left to weather.

Build rudder for steam boat. Rudder is to be for outboard placement to be constructed with Iroko blade and Mahogany cheeks. A pattern was made out of gash ply and tried on the vessel to check for depth of blade to depth of keel molding, clearance port and starboard and for position of pintells and tiller slot. A calculation was made for balance and this wa added to rudder template.
Rudder shape was transferred onto end glued Iroko boards and cut out with band saw.
