How many of us remember the most favourite devotional Song that used to be sang by Mahatma Gandhi and sing "Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram,Pathithapaavana Sitaram" and "Vaishnav Jan to tene kahiye,Jay peerh paraaye janneyray,Par dukkhey upkar karey teeyey, man abhiman na anney ray,Sakal lokma Sahuney bandhey"in our daily life! Certainly t...he answer will be something in thousands save and except , bhajans, or devotional songs are sung at his memorial, in New Delhi called Raj Ghat on Gandhi Jayanti (His Birth Anniversary).Let us revive our memories and begin singing Bapu's most favorite devotional songs daily during our morning and evening prayers to seek godly bliss!

In this Picture, Mahatma Gandhi is seen while he was in London for Round-table Conference, who was known as a half naked Phakir( great saint).Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu and the Father of the Indian Nation, w...as born on the Octobe 2, 1869. The day is a national holiday in India marked by a series of cultural events organized each year to commemorate the birth of one of India’s greatest political beacons and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948 that is known as the blackest day in the modern history of India.He had employed civil disobedience firstly while a roaring lawyer in South Africa, during struggle of Indian residents there for civil rights. After his return to India in 1915, he had organized very successfully the protests led by peasants, farmers, and urban laborers concerning excessive land-tax and discrimination. After assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi Ji had led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women's rights, build religious and ethnic amity, end untouchability, and increase economic self-reliance. Above all, he aimed to achieve Swaraj or the independence of India from foreign domination. Gandhi famously led his followers in the Non-cooperation movement that protested the British-imposed salt tax with the 400 km (240 mi) Dandi Salt March in 1930. Later, in 1942, he launched the Quit India civil disobedience movement demanding immediate independence for India. Gandhi spent a number of years in jail in both South Africa and India.As a practitioner of ahimsa, Gandhi swore to speak the truth and advocated that others do the same. He lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven from yarn that he had spun by hand himself. He was a complete vegetarian ,who had carried out a fruitarian diet, for some time and undertook long fasts as a means of both self-purification and social protest.On this day, bhajans, or devotional songs are sung at his samadhi, or memorial, in Delhi called Raj Ghat. He was very fond of devotional songs. Two devotional song that he use to love and adore are mentioned below with expectation that all of us will join singing with me.

Ragh upati Raghav Raja Ram (Ram Dhun) has been a very popular bhajan (Hindu devotional song) that was a favorite of Mahatma Gandhi. It was sung by Gandhi and his followers as they walked during the 388 Kilometers Salt March to Dandi. from March 12,1930 to April 6,1930.

Raghupathi raghava rajaram,Pathithapaavana sitharam,Sundhara vigraha meghashyam,Ganga tulasi salagram,Bhadra girishwara sitharam,Bhakatha janapriya sitharam,Janaki ramana sithara,

Jaya jaya raghava sitharam

It has been transliterated as follows: Raghupati Raaghav Raajaaraam, Patit paavan sitaram,Siitaram Jai Sitaram, Bhaj pyaare tu sitaram, Iishvar Allah tero naam, Sab ko sanmati de bhagavaan.

It can be translated in English as Such: Lord Rama, Chief of the Kingdom of Raghu,Uplifters of all those who have fallen, O divine couple Sita and Rama,

Beloved, praise Sita and Rama, God or Allah is your name, (meaning that the supreme can be called by many names), Lord, bless everyone with this wisdom!

The most famous devotional song “Vaishnav jan to tene kahiye je Peed paraayi jaane re”was very much liked and adored by Mahatma Gandhi that was composed by the Gujarati Poet and Saint Narsinh Mehta in the 15th century. The Bhajan that was the most favorite to Mahatma Gandhi reads as follows:

Vaishnav Jan to tene kahiye,Jay peerh paraaye janneyray,Par dukkhey upkar karey teeyey, man abhiman na anney ray,Sakal lokma Sahuney bandhey,Ninda Na karye kainee ray,Baach Moh maaya vyaayey nahin Jeynay, dridth vairagya jana manma ray,Ram-nam-shoom taalee, Sakal teerth seyna tanma ray, Vanloohee nay kapat rahit chhay,Kaam, Krodh nivarya ray,

Bhane Narsinhyo tainoo darshan karta kul ekotair taarya re.

The English translation of this Bhajan is as follows:

Speak only as godlike of the man who feels another's pain

Who shares another's sorrow and pride does disdain

Who regards himself lowliest of the low

Speaks not a word of evil against anyone

Blessed is the mother who gave birth to such a son

Who looks upon everyone as his equal,

Lust he has renounced

Who honors women like he honors his mother

Whose tongue knows not the taste of falsehood

Nor covets another's worldly goods

Who longs not for worldly wealth (or fame)

For he treads the path of renunciation

Ever on his lips is Ram's holy name

All places of pilgrimage are within him

He has conquered greed, is free of deceit, lust and anger

Through him Narsinh has godly vision

And his generation to come will attain salvation.

जिह्वा थकी असत्य ना बोले

पर धन नव झाली हाथ रे

वैष्णव जन तो तेने कहिये जे ...



मोह माया व्यापे नही जेने

द्रिढ़ वैराग्य जेना मन मान रे

राम नाम सुन ताळी लागी

सकळ तिरथ तेना तन मान रे

वैष्णव जन तो तेने कहिये जे ...



वण लोभी ने कपट- रहित छे

काम क्रोध निवार्या रे

भणे नरसैय्यो तेनुन दर्शन कर्ता
