How to create an iTunes account

1. If you need to create an iTunes account, but don’t want to use a credit card, get an iTunes Gift Card from the Briar Cliff Bookstore, HyVee, ShopKo, or any other reseller, before beginning this process.

2. Tap the App Store on the iPad.

3. Option A: If this is the first time you’ve opened the App Store on the iPad, you’ll see a pop-up window offering iBooks – the app for Apple’s ebook store. iBooks is a free app. Tap on Download. Continue to step 4.

3. Option B: If you have opened the App Store before or you don’t see a pop-up window for iBooks, tap on the search box in the top right corner and search for iBooks. Tap on the grey box labeled “Free” beside the iBooks icon, then tap on “Install App”. Continue to step 4.

4. You’ll be asked to either log in with an existing account or create a new one. Tap on Create.

5. Tap on Agree for the App Store Terms of Service. Fill out the following screens. Make sure you make a note of your username and password! Send it to yourself in an email so you’ll be able to find it easily. Use an email address that you’ll be able to check in order to verify it. Learn how to add an email account to the iPad.

6. For payment information, skip the credit card fields and enter the number from the scratched-off area of the iTunes Gift Card. You will also need to put in a mailing address. The credit from the iTunes Gift Card applies to the App Store, iTunes Store, and the iBookstore.

7. When you’re done creating the iTunes account, you might be prompted to download iBooks. If not prompted, tap on the search box in the top right corner of the App Store and search for iBooks again. Tap on Free and Install App.

8.  New apps automatically download to the second home screen of your iPad, until that screen is full.  Then apps download to the third screen, and so on.

9.  Learn how to rearrange apps on your home screen and create folders. See more information about the App Store in this video.
