The State Has Set an Execution Date for Troy Davis – September 21, 2011
It has been announced that the state of Georgia has a date for the execution of Troy Davis, a black man on death row for a crime that many believe he did not commit. NAACP President Ben Jealous sent out this email to supporters of Davis’ case:
We’ve just received terrible news: The state of Georgia has set Troy Davis’s execution date for midnight on September 21st, just two weeks from today.This is our justice system at its very worst, and we are alive to witness it.
There is just too much doubt.Even though seven out of nine witnesses have recanted their statements, a judge labeled his own ruling as “not ironclad” and the original prosecutor has voiced reservations about Davis’s guilt, the state of Georgia is set to execute Troy anyway.Time is running out, and this is truly Troy’s last chance for life.But through the frustration and the tears, there is one thing to remain focused on: We are now Troy Davis’s only hope. And I know we won’t let him down.There are three steps you can take to help Troy:
1. Send a message of support to Troy as he fights for justice on what may be the final days of his life:http://action.naacp.org/LettersOfSupport
2. Sign the name wall, if you haven’t already. And if you have, send it to your friends and family. Each name means a more united front for justice:http://action.naacp.org/Name-Wall
3. Make sure everyone knows about this injustice. Spread the word on Facebook andTwitter (using the hashtag #TooMuchDoubt) so that Troy Davis’s story can be heard. We still have a chance to save his life, but only if people are willing to speak out against injustice. Today, the state of Georgia has declared their intention to execute a man even though the majority of the people who put him on the row now say he is innocent and many implicate one of the other witnesses as the actual killer. Now that a date has been set, we cannot relent. We must redouble our efforts. Thank you. I FEEL THAT TROY DAVIS SHOULD NOT BE EXECUTED IF MANY WITNESSE’S HAS RECANTED THEIR STATEMENTS,I ALSO FEEL THAT HE SHOULD AT LEAST BE GIVEN A LIFE SENTENCE IF NOT RELEASE,THIS COULD BE A GRAVE MISSTAKE FOR THE STATE OF GEORGIA TO EXECUTE MR DAVIS ON THESE BASICS.
WE MUST do ALL that is possible to make sure that an innocent MAN is not unjustly sacrificed for the EVIL among US! Peace & Blessings!!

IN THE LAND WHICH BOAST “JUSTICE FOR ALL” A MAN IS SENTENCED TO “DEATH” IN THE FACE OF WITNESSES WHO “RECANTED” THEIR TESTIMONY, AN ADMISSION OF “DOUBT” CONCERNING “GUILT” BY THE PROSECUTOR AND AN “ACKNOWLEDGEMENT” BY THE JUDGE THAT HIS DECISION WAS NOT “IRON CLAD”. NEVERTHELESS, TROY DAVIS HAS BEEN GIVEN A DATE IN WHICH TO BE “EXECUTED”! NOW, WHAT PART DID “JUSTICE” PLAY IN ANY OF THE ABOVE? WHERE IS THIS ELUSIVE “JUSTICE” THAT IS “TAUTED” ABOUT, THROUGH ALL AMERICA? HOW IS IT, THAT THE TESTIMONY OF WITNESSES, THE CLAIMS OF GUILT BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE PROSECUTOR AND THE SENTENCING OF THE JUDGE WERE SUFFICIENT IN AND OF IT’S SELF TO “PLACE” A MAN ON “DEATH ROW”, YET “SOMETHING MORE” IS NEEDED TO “GET HIM OFF” AND THIS – DESPITE THE ADMISSIONS OF ALL INVOLVED THEY ARE UNCERTAIN CONCERNING HIS “GUILT”!! BUT THE FACTS OF THE MATTER ARE, LEFT ON IT OWN HE WILL INDEED BE “EXCUTED”! AND WE MUST NOW GATHER A “STRONG HOLD OF DEFENSE” AGAINST IT. BUT IF THOSE HAVING THE RESPONSIBILTY TO UPHOLD THE LAW AND BRING ABOUT “JUSTICE” MUST BE “MADE TO DO SO” AFTER THEY’VE ADMITTED “UNCERTAINTIES AND DOUBTS” CONCERNING GUILT, AND THE WITNESSES THEMSELVES HAVE “RECANTED” THEIR TESTIMONY, THEN THOSE HAVING THE RESPONSIBILTY TO UPHOLD THE LAW AND BRING ABOUT “JUSTICE” HAVE NO IDEA, EXACTLY WHAT THAT IS. AND INDEED BECAUSE OF THEM “JUSTICE” AS IT IS PROCLAIMED, IS “NON-EXISTENT”!
Mr. Davis has already been in prison since 1991? 20 years? Does it really take that long to determine a man’s guilt? NOW, Georgia, you want to Kill him? Is this JUSTICE or RACIAL HATRED???
im stunned especially so much doubt is in question.just curious, are there any innocence projects that cud help him.
Do all the above suggested things to support Troy…but more importantly pray that God will intervene and save Troy.
