Walker Beacon School is a private, nonprofit, 198-day special education school serving a population of 65 students in grades 7-12+ from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities and expressions. Our students generally have average to above average cognitive and academic abilities, and typically struggle with anxiety, depression, and trauma, which manifest as internalizing behaviors. Our students often come to us reporting experiences of feeling excluded in public school settings, particularly when exploring and/or embracing their developing self-identities.
We offer a rigorous general education curriculum that includes programming in creative writing, fine arts, photography, music, theater, and public speaking. While in our program, students meet their educational requirements, including passing MCAS exams; discover new creative outlets and talents that serve them well in their future endeavors; and benefit from comprehensive clinical services provided by experienced clinicians.
