Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all. After being a Bus Nut for over 10 years now, I have finally purchased my first coach. It is a 1982 MCI-9 that I just bought in Florida. My friend is currently on the road driving it up to the Wash, DC area for me now. It is in good shape. It has a low grade coversation done currently. It has water tank and a grey/black combo tank; a liquid cooled diesel generator; bathroom; kitchen; side aisle layout; bedroom; roof a/c's ; bus heat is operational;etc.

My first task will be to decide if I want to tear out the floor and create addt'l headroom without raising the roof. I am not sure if this is possible. I just viewed a 1982 MC-9 that had plenty of headroom a few weeks ago. The roof had not been raised. I am not sure if the factory floor was torn out and a new floor layed.

Does anybody have any suggestions/advice for me here. I am a 35 year young, energetic male with limited free time(what's new in America - right?). I will be going to Arcadia, Florida for the Bussin 2004 Convention and hope to get some good ideas and advice there. What books should I start with?

Any insight and/or info is appreciated. Wish me Luck!!

Eric

p.s. Has anybody ever thought, "What the he-- have I done after purchasing their first coach?"

Congratulations on your purchase. We did a side aisle design in our MC-8 and are very happy with it. The amount of slope in the floor isn'that hard to accommodate. The main area is to level the base cabinets. Unless you are really tall, I wouldn't recommend trying to lower the floor - I don't think it can be done without a lot of structural work anyway.

Eric,
Congratulations! We've had our MCI-8 about 2 1/2 years now and still wonder what the he-- we got into at least once a week!!!

We have converted it while we live in it and travel fulltime, which has presented some challenges. We will be in the vendor area at Arcadia, stop by and say hello.

We have the story of our conversion process on our web site, for those interested. Log onto www.gypsyjournal.net and at the bottom of the first page, click the link that says Bus Conversion Project.

Congratulations on your new purchase! and so young too.

I bought a coach a little over a month ago and I alternate between what have I done, and I really like this.

Tlaks talk talk, look at a lot of other's conversions and hear their ideas. There is a yahoo group for New Jerset transit MCI 9's, you may want to join as they are active, and there will be lots of commonality.

I am doing my third coach and all have side isles.I started with a 1963 4106then 1975
5905 and now working on a 1988 MCI 102A3. One thing to remember is if the isle is on the right side you can see into the bedroom. I really like the side isles.
