SEASON ENDS WITH A BLANK
Chester completed their National League North season with a home 0-0 draw against Darlington on Saturday. The draw with the Quakers was the fifth successive home match without a Chester goal that saw the Blues finish the season in a disappointing tenth position, six points below Curzon Ashton in the final play-off place.

The alarming drop in home form over recent weeks cost Chester dear with successive defeats to Southport, South Shields and Alfreton Town proving vital, as Chester dropped from fourth place in early March following the draw at Scunthorpe United to near mid-table.

The end of season play-off’s quarter finals and semi-finals will be contested this week by:
Alfreton Town v Boston United – winners away at Scunthorpe United.
Chorley v Curzon Ashton – winners away at Brackley Town.

FA CUP STATEMENT
Following the surprise announcement from the Football Association to scrap FA Cup replays, the board at Chester FC have issued the following statement.

“Chester Football Club is dismayed at the decision of The FA and the Premier League to change the format of The FA Cup, without consideration of the consequences their actions will have on clubs such as ours.

The scrapping of replays from the first round proper onwards denies clubs access to much-needed revenue from gate receipts and broadcast fees, but also means supporters and players will have far fewer opportunities to create the unforgettable memories for which the competition is so revered.

It is deeply concerning that these changes have been announced without consulting the 144 clubs who make up the English Football League and National League, nor the hundreds across the football pyramid who enter the FA Cup each season. This demonstrates an alarming lack of respect for the wider game and its fans, and reinforces the urgent need for a strong Independent Football Regulator.

We urge The FA and the Premier League to listen to the concerns of clubs and supporters, suspend the changes and commence a full and proper consultation with all stakeholders.”

PLAY-OFF DREAMS OVER
Boston United’s 1-0 victory at Banbury United last night means that whatever the results are on Saturday Chester will not now be able to reach the final seventh play-off place.

BLUES LET EARLY LEAD SLIP
Chester were beaten at third places Brackley Town on Saturday as their slim play-off hopes hang by a thread. Ben Tollitt gave Chester an ideal start with an opening goal on nine minutes. Goals either side of the break from Connor Hall gave The Saints the advantage and they wrapped up the three points with a Danny Newton goal 16 minutes from time.

SIX OF THE BEST
Harrison Burke scored twice on his 100th appearance for Chester on Saturday as the Blues romped to a 6-1 victory at Gloucester City, relegating the home side in the process. Burke opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first half and Tom Peers had doubled the lead as the sides trooped off at half time.

The hosts pulled a goal back through a spectacular strike from Owen Brain on 57 minutes but Chester soon restored their two goal advantage within ten minutes through George Glendon. Further goals from Adam Thomas, Burke and Ben Tollitt completed the rout.

HOME FRUSTRATIONS CONTINUE
Following the fine 4-1 victory at Buxton on Good Friday, Chester’s home frailties continued as they followed that up with a 2-0 home defeat to play-off rivals Alfreton Town this afternoon. The Blues were out muscled by a physical Alfreton side who took the lead through Kennedy Digie who headed home rom a corner seven minutes before the half-time whistle. The visitors had already struck the post before Digie doubled their lead on 68 minutes.
