Beginner’s Knitting/Brush up your knitting!

Beryl has been working with wool for many years including dyeing, spinning, weaving, knitting and felting. Teacher Beryl introduced many young children to the joys of knitting and crochet. She has taught many new and inexperienced adult knitters the basic techniques and helped more advanced knitters master more complicated techniques.

Spend the day learning to knit or brushing up on your skills. Cast on, cast off, knit and purl to start with, then progress to end the day with a hat.

All yarn required for the workshop will be supplied. Skill levels: Beginners

All workshops will be held at Stash and run from 10.30 till 16.00. Cost £40 including drinks and cakes/biscuits, and 10% discount off all purchases on the day.

Knitting group and Scrumbles…

I know it has been quite a while since I’ve delighted you all with my ramblings, but we have been very busy here at Stash.

Some of the latest news is that we have started a weekly knitting group on a Wednesday morning – STITCHES @ STASH

From around 10.30am to 12.30pm we have a lovely group of knitters and crocheters, all busy – chatting and drinking coffee and treating themselves to a cake or cookie… and of course perusing the latest arrivals.

We do have a Ravelry group – Stitches@Stash

We have also re-started our workshops for the year and the first one was last Friday  – Freeform Knitting and Crochet. I was able to sneak off and join in, which was fun as it is something I have never done. Bee kept us all on track and busy all day, the time just flew by. Here are our scrumbles with and without the refreshments…

Zimmerman style workshop

Beryl has been with us all day teaching a group of ladies how to knit Zimmerman style.

The noise level does rise occassionally but generally they have been very quiet as they concentrate on using one hand to knit with and the other to purl with.

Here’s what they are aiming for

We have had a little time to start an SMC Lofty scarf, here’s what we have so far…

We discovered the further apart you space your stitches the fluffier the scarf is.

Knitting Workshop

We have had a group of ladies in today, some learning to knit and others brushing up on their knitting skills. They have been vey busy all day and kept supplied with homemade cakes and biscuits (thank you Katie – I have managed to sneak a piece of cake … yummy).

We still have a few spaces left on the October workshop for learning to knit Zimmermann style (fair isle knitting with 2 hands!). Hopefully Katie will be able to bake some cakes….

Knit in the Round Workshop

We have had an amazing day with the ladies on the workshop, they have been working hard learning new skills and will all be going home with a small pot to felt.

Homemade cakes and drinks were not enough to stop the knitting today, and there was very little cake left for the rest of us!

Saturday Treat!

We have fixed another Saturday date for your diaries – Saturday 16th April we will be opening our doors to you from 11am till 4pm.

We will be on hand to assist with any queries you may have or just for a discussions on which colour would be best!

We hope you will be able to join us for a drink and biscuits, possibly cake, for those of you who joined us before Christmas you know how good Helen’s cake is!

And if you are wanting to join us for the ‘Knitting in the Round‘ workshop – places are limited and filling so get in touch!

Workshops for 2011

We are in talks with the lovely Beryl Weir from Crafts From The Dungeon, about workshops for 2011 and so far we have one date for your diaries,  Friday 11th February 2011, with more on the way.

Beryl will be doing a workshop on Knitting in the Round, for all of you who are scared of DPNS, magic loop and 2 circulars

Come and spend the day learning ‘how  to’ with Beryl and all of us here.

Hopefully it will be on the website soon with all the details.

We will be open again on Tuesday 4th January so wishing you all a Happy Christmas and a yarnful New Year.

Rowan Lace Workshop proves a great success!

Workshop Buffet

Just a small selection from the luchtime buffet

Yet another successful Rowan Workshop at Stash Fine Yarns last Friday 16th April. Heike Gittins introduced the ten eager ladies to the wonders of producing beautiful fine pieces quite simply by using the finest quality yarns, in this case Rowan’s Kidsilk Haze knitted on some of the World’s best needles, Addi, Knit Pro and Signature. Hand made chocolate cookies went well with the tea/coffee for elevenses, followed by a freshly prepared buffet lunch at 1pm…ish.

The Manos Lace Arrives!

Lesley brings in the much awaited Manos Del Uruguay Lace

Every one was very chatty, making new friends and sharing their passion with like minded people. A delivery of the brand new Manos Del Uruguay Lace and Manos Del Uruguay  Lace Patterns caused quite a stir, hardly giving us any chance to get this delicious yarn out of the box! It really is quite gorgeous, 12 shades made of 75% baby Alpaca , 20% Silk, 5% Cashmere with approx 439yds/400m per 50g skein. One skein will make a scarf – all for £11.95! Fantastic!

The afternoon was finished off with some more hot and cold drinks and iced donuts! Everyone had left by about 5pm, armed with their new knowledge and clutching their 10% discounted purchases, eager to get home and try out their new skills. Thanks go to Heike for sharing her skills with everyone. The next workshop, a ‘Tunisian Crochet’ workshop is scheduled at Stash on Friday 7th May.

Which Manos Lace pattern? They're all just so gorgeous!
