So I have been frustrated that I could not use Netflix and ABC Player on my Ipad in Kuwait. Many people have inquired about the issue but no one has explained the process in steps. After having several failed attempts in trying different ways to solve this issue I finally found a trusted vpn site! A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network that uses public telecommunication infrastructure. It will allow you to by-pass the firewalls that are put up by different companies. For instance, I really like my Netflix account on my Ipad and it frustrates me that I am not able to use it in Kuwait or anywhere I travel outside the USA! Now it works fine and I don’t have trouble with buffering issues like I did when I used free vpn sites. But then again, you get what you pay for! Let’s start the process of getting you a secure vpn.

You will see the following page:
Insert the following choices in the indicated boxes:
Choose Package: 3 City Special PPTP 1 year ($55)
Payment Method: Your choice, I prefer Visa or Paypal
Current Country: If you are in Kuwait, choose Kuwait. If you are in any other country at the point of filling in the form then choose the name of that country.
Phone Number: Insert you real telephone number as they have to contact you for verification.
Click on Submit and follow the instructions. Honestly I did not have the patience to wait for them to call me and verify. I went to the following link: http://reliablehosting.com/live.html and started to chat with one of the available accountants at the time to start using the VPN. They were really helpful but I had to figure out a way to use the Ipad apps on my own since they did not have any idea what to do with them. Make sure you tell them that the location of the server you want is in New York, since the San Francisco one does not work properly with Netflix and ABC Player.
Okay so for the setup: the same steps apply for ipad/iphone/ipod touch. The following is a screen of an iphone setup. FOR WINDOWS OR MAC PCS OR LINUX platform go to the following link for instructions: http://strongvpn.com/setup.shtml
First go to settings then General, then choose Network.
Go ahead and select VPN
Select Add VPN Configuration
Choose PPTP Tap and enter the information you got in your email confirmation from StrongVPN like shown in the picture
Then click save and go back to the previous page and connect to the vpn you created
For Computers, you are all set go and download Skype if you wish since it is blocked in Kuwait or you are free to open any site. Please do realize I share this information not because I want to encourage any illicit act in the view of the Kuwaiti government. So do not misuse this information by going to any R Rated Websites.
FOR IPAD/IPOD Touch/IPHONE APP installation:
Download netflix/ABC Player/Food Network Night Time or whatever app you want from the App Store. If you do not have an American itunes account, then you have to buy a prepaid itunes card off of the internet and use the app store as an american user through the itunes card.
After you download it (AND MAKE SURE YOUR VPN IS THROUGH A NEW YORK SERVER) you will know what server it is on your customer page in the strongvpn.com website after you login into your account. You can also know through the name of the server you see on the email you received. It should say vpn-inxx and not vpn-sfxx.
And VOILA ! check out Netflix working on my Ipad:
And here is ABC Player working on it too:

Thanks for the great info. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.
Now I subscribed and did all the settings. Problem is NETFLIX is not working with me. Only ABC player. NETFLEX keeps stuck in the red first page. When I turn off the VPN, I can access the app. With VPN, does not get pass the first red page. I changed my server to be New York based. Still no luck. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks again 🙂
Thats Wierd. Did you try rebooting your ipad? have you tried hulu plus? its a pretty good app too with a huge database.
