The aim of this web site is to provide a comprehensive study of Brush Sulzer Type 4, or Class 47, locomotives. The study begins in the early 1960's and ends in the present day; a period of time that encompasses the development and introduction of the class, the diverse range of duties which the class performed so well, an array of technical variations; a profusion of re-numberings, namings, de-namings, re-namings; a myriad of liveries; and, finally, re-build, scrap, or heritage.
Certain other topics allied to the Brush Type 4 story are also covered in order to provide additional interest: the FALCON and LION prototypes, and the Cuban "Class 48's" for example; but, unlike previous versions of the site, models, media and the Class 57 things are not included.
