He leads the Royal Town Planning Institute‘s team that provides the UK contact point for the European Observatory on Territorial Development and Cohesion. He is one of the authors of Regional and Local Economic Development (Palgrave), which takes a global view on policies and practices, using case studies from five continents. He works as a freelance consultant and researcher and has been involved in several European-funded (INTERREG and INTERACT) projects. He is Chair of the Commonwealth Expert Group on Urbanisation.

Former student of Cliff”s at Heriot- Watt 1984 -1986. Cliff taught me the principles of Planning. Pragmatic and always passionate. Planning has lost its way. Town Centre Management is losing its focus, BID’s are taking over but I still have my doubts about privatising town centres. Best regards to Cliff. This has given me hope!!!

Michael Bach attends our London Region ATCM meetings and attempts to keep us on the ball with what is happening in the world of planning. i was made redundant last year and am going it alone! If you need an inexpensive enthusiastic researcher I’m your woman!!! Contributed to the Markets 21 document – NABMA wesite. They are going down the tubes in the UK.
