Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to open its Cleveland Park location in the first half of next year, a spokesman said.
The opening date for the restaurant at 3420 Connecticut Ave. is too far away to set a more specific date, spokesman Chris Arnold said in an email.
The Cleveland Park/Woodley Park Advisory Neighborhood Commission gave Chipotle its blessing Monday when it voted unanimously to support the chain’s application for a zoning exception to open its restaurant. Zoning regulations prohibit fast food restaurants in Cleveland Park.
The city’s Board of Zoning Adjustment will make the final decision on Chipotle’s exception, but city ordinance requires that body to give “great weight” to the ANC’s decision.
Chipotle’s BZA application describes the planned establishment as a fast-casual restaurant serving burritos, tacos and salads, with 28 seats. It will occupy the space that The Cereal Bowl left in November when it closed. Chipotle has nine locations in Washington, D.C., including ones in Woodley Park, Tenleytown and Glover Park.
I would rather have kept the cereal bowl
Chipotle??? When we already have wonderful Aleros and California Tortilla??? Who’s running the show here? I live in CP and am still wondering why the application for Cosi was denied. Now we can only drink that aweful swill from Firehook – Cosi would have served (no pun intended) the eating habits of many residents and visitors!
Oh yes, and zoning (???) prohibits fast food? What do they think the Tackle Box is???
BRINK STARBUCKS OR CARIBOU COFFEE HERE!!!!!!
THAT IS WHAT THIS PLACE NEEDS!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CLEVELAND PARK IS BECOMING LIKE GEORGETOWN….IT IS GROSS!!!!!!
BRING BACK THE FLAVOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
California tortilla is garbage compared to Chipotle and Alero is too expensive for a quick mexican meal. There has to be at least 1 cost effective place here. You can get a filling burrito or bowl at chipotle for $6 and change. I have never heard 1 person say the food at chipotle is sub-par. I guarentee the younger population of this area of cleveland park agrees that chipotle is perfect for that spot. Only downside is that it will definitely put other places out of business, I am especially worried about Byblos being right next door. And Cosi? That has to be a joke. Cosi is just a more boring version of Panera.
Any date yet on the opening of the new Cleveland Park Chiptole’s?
