Abort, Retry, Fail

You know how you can sometimes feel like you’re playing the sims for ages and yet your sims only age by two days?  Welcome to life with the present Dayes. Bramble had her adult birthday and started glitching – her arms went a bit weird, and when I went in to change her hair and came out again she showed up as one day off being an elder.  Exited, replayed her birthday again, decided not to change her hair, same problem – even when trying to reset her days in current life span using Master Controller.  Twallan reckons it’s an EA bug 😦 So we cheated and used DebugEnabler to get us some ambrosia.  Given it’s to fix a silly game glitch, I don’t really consider it cheating. And I liked Bramble as a ghost 😦 Still, it seems to have done the trick, and she’s no longer approaching old age. I did try applying the ghost shader with DebugEnabller but it doesn’t seem to last after you save. I then got in a huff with Bridgeport and decided to investigate the last few places we hadn’t been with a view to moving.  This park seems designed purely for outdoor gigs… …and Pollo decided to autonomously skinny dip in the park with a hot tub. I then tried to move the family to Barnacle Bay… Lot placement was a huge issue.  I imported their house, the movie lot, plus a mixture of LN clubs and custom clubs.  Barely anything sat right on the land and i suck at editing terrain so it took ages to make buildings accessible. The custom clubs looked cool inside, but they were a bit weird – barely any punters, and no mixologists on duty… …because they were all just standing around in packs at the doors. Mona’s jobs completed reset to zero (thank goodness for Twallan’s mods that means I can adjust that)… …but when Alley’s boss was ‘Alley Daye’ and then the save crashed, I decided to abort that whole move idea.  I do want to get them to Barnacle Bay one day, but not for a while yet, we’ll just have to live with laggy old Bridgeport for now. Installing a fire alarm at home for GaGa was a bad idea.  This thing is REALLY LOUD.  I HATE IT. So do the rest of the family.  I tried to retire GaGa but it said her pension would be 0, then it said it would be -9K, and I am not paying the state 9 grand for her to retire.  She’s 101, surely she’ll die soon? Pollo is 91 and we had the pop-up saying he will get a parade, but no such parade has occurred yet.  Bah. The family have thus turned back to drink. Way back in Gen 6 (which was AGES ago, despite the fact that the house still has four members of Gen 7 in it) when we made loads of nectars, I deliberately made some with the extended blend and some without to see how they’d age. We tried the cherry versions and they were both perfect, the normal one a week older and worth 200 simoleans more.  They gave exactly the same moodlets: +15 four hour Sugar Rush and +25 8 hoor grapes ones (albeit named differently – commanding complexity for the normal one and breathtaking balance for the extended one, but I suspect this  naming might be random, as Alley’s moodlet, with her over-emotional bonus was a +31 astonishing aroma one). We also tried some 3000 year old Renoit grape and apple nectar which had moodlets of the same value – as did perfect flame fruit nectar (though this time it was termed ‘fabulous finish’). Ah Bridgeport.  I’ve decided I love you.  I do like the architecture in the town, to be fair. Pollo tried to enter the cookathon but only managed to cook up two servings 😦 He also sold some of the regular cherry nectar at the consignment store for 300 more than its value, but no word on the extended blend yet.  We also sold a vampire fish for 1.5 times its value. Cleaning still proves to be a pain, despite installing Buzzler’s mod that’s meant to help with cleaning.  Quentin just stood there for ages doing nothing. Bramble confuses me.  I sent her, Alley and Mona to the bars together, and yet she got a negative moodlet for going in the car alone.  Why did you go alone?  You were sent in a group!! Mona tried some chocolate bubbles and got a horrible looking chocolate drop shaped moodlet (that doesn’t necessarily look like a chocolate drop) ‘Chocolate chuckles’ +15, two hours. Alley had a shillelagh which gave her a +12 wide awake moodlet.  I wanted her to try a stomach churner but the bar closed.  I have a mod that extends bar hours til 5am and that’s still barely enough time to do anything.  Bramble appears to be still a million miles away from mastering any of the mixology skill challenges, and Alley still isn’t climbing the celebrity ladder. And Mona still seems to always pass out as she’s about to moodlet manage herself. Join us next time to see if we can actually progress a bit!

  1. I would completely stop playing with all the glitches you encounter. I just don’t have the patience to work around such things again and again. (Which is maybe, because it’s part of what I’m doing at university/work, so I don’t want to keep on doing it for some game thats ment to be fun.) I really will miss Bramble as a ghost…

    • So will I 😦

Glitches are all part and parcel of the fun, though! They don’t usually last forever…

  2. Aww 😦 Like the comment above me, I too can’t believe you put up with this crap. Poor Bramble, but at least she won’t die before her time is up.

Why do all your bar staff look like they are celebrating St Patricks day? I got LN but I haven’t noticed this trend yet.

    • That was in a sports bar – I guess they wear different outfits for each type of bar. I’ll have to keep my eyes open.

  3. More glitches, btw, did you see the news about the two next expansion packs? Dunno if they are real or no but: http://mysims3blog.blogspot.com/2011/03/sims-3-generations-trailer-and-sims.html

    have a looksie 🙂

I miss Bramble as a ghost too 😦 she looked SO good as one! And I think you progressed quite a bit in this update, was a good read like always ❤

    • Yes, I saw those. Generations looks a bit random but new EPs are always welcome in this.legacy. I think I’ll put up with Bridgeport til gen 10 then evaluate.

  4. That’s a huge problem with BB that there isn’t much lot space, put the studios on a huge lot opposite the military base, and went in and flattened the lot before placing one from in the build mode rather than the one in the bin. More worrying is the only 2 seed spawning places.

I thought Bramble looked great non ghosted. Shame about the glitches. The celebrity would have been harder in BB as it doesn’t create any at all, unless you to cheat to make some Sims celebs.

    • I’m going to get the Late Night stuff done before a move, I think. I do want them in BB eventually.

    • I actually have the exact opposite problem with BB since late night. EVERYONE is a celebrity for me, it makes getting friends really annoying. Which is a shame because I really enjoy the town even though everyone else seems to dislike it. I don’t even bother trying to put clubs or huge lots down though, that never seems to go well for me no matter what town I play!

      • You can change the celebrity settings in… one of Twallan’s mods, anyway. I haven’t fiddled with it yet but I will be doing for the project I’m going to start after Operation: Population ends.

  5. This sounds like the kind of game glitches that would put me off playing. I have no idea how you persevere, but it’s awesome that you do!

At least we get to see Bramble’s pretty blue eyes. She looks cool as a ghost or as a normal sim.

    • I persevere because I love the Dayes so much! Glitches will not defeat us… well, they might one day but I hope not!

  6. Rad I’m so happy that the glitches aren’t defeating you! The Dayes are amazing, and its so helpful, all the information you provide.

I hope you become glitch-free soon!

  7. Oh, and apparently the Sims3 Generation expansion pack is supposed to be released in the Spring!

    • May/June, I believe. I can’t wait until I get my computer back from repair. I miss the Dayes so much!
