How to Do a Work Cited Page

After you have finished a research paper, you normally include a work cited page at the end of it. It is a page that contains a list of the works that are referenced or cited within the body of your research paper. A work cited page is also called a Reference page and should not be confused with a Bibliography page, which contains a list of all the sources that you have used for the entire research. There are entry format rules when you cite references. Take a look below on how to do a work cited page.

Some of the entry format rules that you can use to format a work cited page include adding an underline on the titles of books, films and magazines. You can also italicize the titles rather than underlining them.  If you are citing poems, the titles should be enclosed in quotation marks. The same is applied when you cite short stories and articles. When listing authors, you should write the last name first followed by a comma before adding the first name. This is followed by the city of publication, the name of the publisher and date of publication. Follow the order of the authors as listed in the book if there are multiple authors.

There are other conventions that you should follow while you learn how to do a work cited page aside from what was given above. There are unconventional sources right now that can be used as references like electronic media. If you used a CD-ROM, list the name of the author, if this is available, starting with the last name, followed by the first name. Enclose the title of the article in quotation marks and underline or italicize the name of the product. Include the edition or version if this is available and follow this with the word CD-ROM in all caps, with a hyphen.  This should be followed by the city of publication, a colon, the name of the publisher followed by a comma before listing the date of publication. If the reference came from the web, include the name of the author, the title of the article, the complete web address or URL and the date when you visited the website. Be sure to follow the rules when listing names and titles.

Add the date of edition after the title of the book or article after the name of the author when citing entries from encyclopedia. The volume and page number will not be necessary if the articles are alphabetically arranged.

If you are citing an interview that you have conducted, list your name, the title of the interview, the name of the interviewee, the location of the interview as well as the full date when the interview happened.

These are some of the tips that you can use when you want to learn how to do a work cited page. Make sure that you are consistent with how the entries are to be made. If you underline the titles of books or products, then use it for all cited works.
