I wanted to post an entry about Galvanic current and 302, inspired by Esther's comment. :)
To start, Galvanic is a machine that uses negative and positive charges to create two different effects on the face. You can use it for disincrustation or Ionophoresis.
Disincrustation uses negative current to liquify sebum in the skin and create deep pore cleansing, generally used before extractions. Most Estheticians are taught to use a mixture or water and baking soda to apply to the skin in cotton compresses that are useful in conducting the electrical current. Dermalogica is one if the few companies that makes a really effective Disincrustation solution (called Scaling Fluid) but its in their professional line so it may be hard to obtain it. The face must remain wet with solution or wet compresses to properly conduct the charge.

Ionophoresis uses the galvanic current's positive polarity to penetrate water based solutions into the skin, which penetrates your treatment into the skin. Because Galvanic only works with water Based products, you would need to use 302 Serum or 302 Plus Serum when using Galvanic & 302. 302 Drops, A-Boost and C-Boost are water free so they are not ideal. Ideally you need to keep the skin "wet" with the product you are penetrating, as to conduct the charge.
Also, I don't think this necessarily needs to be done one after the other. Not everyone necessarily needs Disencrustation (more for Oily/congested skins, or congested t-zones) but most skin types can benefit from the positive polarity (Ionophoresis). I've heard minor debates between professionals about whether or not doing both polarities one after the other was essential, so I thought I'd share.
I do think using 302 and Galvanic would be effective, for sure. It's great for hydration and plumping up the skin as well. Just be careful not to over due Galvanic. Only go over the face once. Over doing it can result in slight burns, at least when using a professional unit. The cheaper retail units don't have as much juice.
I think I may bust out my Galvanic and do a documentary of a galvanic treatment. It could be a future post. ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation of galvanic machines. I never fully understood how they worked. I used to have one called UP5 which claimed it was a galvanic unit but it died a couple years back.
ReplyDeleteEsther... to answer your other post, I think an ultrasound probe would be another good option for you. I use a 2 Mhz probe to push topicals into the skin and the heat is beneficial in promoting collagen and tightening the skin. If you can get the temp up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit, that is ideal. There are skin themometers that can measure the temp if you want to get serious. But I just apply my 302 active, mist with Calming mist to keep the skin moist, then go over areas in little circles until I feel some heat. 115 degrees is not that hot. You must keep the probe moving. The ultrasound "spatulas" are great for exfoliations without irritation and can be used in the same manner as probes. I have both, but tend to use the probe more for convenience. So that is the main gadget I use with 302. I do it only 3x/wk, 10 minutes for the entire face and jaw line. HTH

Nancy, thank you so much for your info too. I actually have been looking into possibly getting the baby quasar red because I heard the light and heat is good for the same reasons you mention above. Do you still recommend the ultrasound probe over that? The thought of doing it while watching tv sounded good to me but I'd rather do what will give me better results. For additional info, I am 52 with decent skin that tends to be normal but dry this time of year. No breakouts. thanks again.

ReplyDeleteEsther, in my personal opinion I would go for the Ultrasound Probe. I think you'll find it has better results than the LED long term. Don't get me wrong, I love how LED plumps up the skin, and reduces redness or symptoms of rosacea, but the probe will really push your actives deep into the skin, while the Ultrasound waves warm the tissues, aid in lymphatic drainage, and stimulate collage. Plus, you can still use the probe in front of the TV. The opposite of that, however, is true when exfoliating with the spatula. In my opinion that one definitely needs a mirror. :)
Danny and/or Nancy, which ultrasound probe would you recommend? I cannot thank you both enough for your help. And am I correct in saying this would totally replace the galvanic?
ReplyDeleteI've had good results with the products from Bellaire. I have the HS 3003D which is the pro spatula and the 2 Mhz probe HS-3026. If you want to exfoliate more often or have blackheads, you might consider getting a spatula later. They have a new corded one called "Ultrawave Scrubber" which my friend loves for exfoliation. It's stronger than the cordless one. Go google "Bellaire ultrasound" to find the website. They explain how ultrasound works and differences between probes and spatulas on the website. I would email the owner, Mr Sing Hong Yeung, if you have any questions. He has been helpful whenever I have a question. Mention you are a long-time 302 user (he might give you a price break). He knows about Dr Huber and 302. There are lots of ultrasound units out there. Don't pick based on price alone or claim they are FDA approved. The FDA does not "approve" these units or review their efficacy. They just register them with the FDA.

I have the Skin Spatula, for my Spa room. When I get around to it I'm going to purchase a 2mhz probe for convenience and travel. That way I can be a little more 'religious' about my 2-3x weekly ultrasound use. :)

I did it with the baking soda/water mixture & made a mess, LOL. Would like to use this till I save enough to get a new gadget. When I first got it, I used aloe vera gel for the disincrustation process. I just reread your first post and I see you said compresses are used. So you run the galvanic on the compresses? I am going to try to look up that other product you mentioned. Otherwise is there any other natural, easy to use product you could recommend.

ReplyDeleteYes, compresses are helpful for the baking soda and water trick. Oherwise, the water drips all over and dries up and you absolutely need to keep the skin moist to conduct the current.
