EIS Learning Representatives

Comments from accredited FE LRs:

“The ULR role involves working in partnership with employers to encourage a culture of learning and to ensure that development plans are drawn up to secure the best from the learning opportunities available.”

Eileen Imlah, FE LR Motherwell College

“I am approaching two years as an FE LR and believe that I still have scope to improve my skills and effectiveness as an LR practitioner while satisfying the promotion of Lifelong Learning can provide, by getting “Life through Learning” while “Learning through Life”.

Iain Breakenridge, FE LR Glasgow Metropolitan College

“I have been in education both as a teacher and now a lecturer for some time - longer than I care to remember - and in this time have experienced a number of staff development and CPD opportunities from a personal perspective. These opportunities included post-initial modules, training courses and seminars that had relevance to my specialist teaching within the area of Health and Social Care. In addition to this my professional interest in staff development was reinforced recently with success in a temporary senior post. Now, as an FE Learning Representative, I wish to utilise the experience that I have gained throughout my career in assisting branch members to meet their personal lifelong learning goals. In the light of proposed developments in CPD for lecturers, I aim to support branch colleagues and make a positive contribution towards the further professionalisation of lecturing in further education.

David Thomson, FE LR John Wheatley College
