Hilltop Farm: A tree

The tree is in reddish variegated yarn, and it’s really going to stand out against the hillside.

Hilltop Farm: Ranch

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s a farm house! And a barn full of hay! I’m already enjoying this, and I can’t wait to get to the wilder yarns in the pack.

Hilltop Farm: New project

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Folks, I have been absolutely dying to start this for ages. It is the Hilltop Farm kit from Rowandean (Americans can get kits from Amazon). It is huge and gorgeous and has an amazing variety of threads/yarns. I could resist no longer. I got it off my shelf and got started on the clouds.

Water’s Edge: Head

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I finished the wing, but I’m not sure I like it. The outer edge looks funny. I would rather not redo it, but I’m considering it. First I’d need to figure out how to do it differently. There’s no point in redoing it if it looks just as funny the second time. I am working on the head too – lots of colorful little spots!

Water’s Edge: More bird feathers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Just a quick update today – I worked some more feathers, finished the beak, and added the eye. Then I played with camera settings for a while. Look, I got it in focus and didn’t wash out the lighting! Now you can see the stitching clearly.

Water’s Edge: Bird feathers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I decided to go back to work on this bird for the Water’s Edge Anchor embroidery kit. I’ve been working with 1 strand of thread for the bird (more threads for the rest of the piece). The bird looks extra-delicate in comparison, and the overall work goes faster. I’ve started listening to audio books while embroidering, which is super fun. Do ya’ll listen to music or audiobooks while working?

Legong Dancer: Wing Outline

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I started work on the dancer’s crown, which has decorative leaves around the ear and will be topped with flowers. There will be long black hair going down her back.

I added chain stitch outlining to the right wing. There’s going to be another one on the other side of the design. I may need to change some of the colors – the costume seems a little faded when it should be very bright, and I don’t think the current color scheme works together.

Chikankari class: Finished!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I finished it! Thank you, Anita, for the design and instructions. I’m delighted with the outcome of the project. Chikan embroidery is really interesting. I’m daydreaming of making a wide decorative belt with it now.

I very much enjoyed working with variegated thread (the colors were my choice). My one complaint is that this type of shadow work (where some areas are designed to deliberately show through the fabric) requires extreme fussiness to keep the tails from showing through. I managed in the end though! Here is the back of the work so you can see what creates the shadow effect on the other side.
