Do American News Media Find Racism Useful?

There are so many examples of American news media using racism, even faked racism, as a tool for drumming up controversy or influencing public opinion for political reasons without checking the facts. Evidently even white washing racism and race baiting is a tactic our impartial news professionals find necessary to protect their preferred political ideals.

Liberal Blogger Admits He Fabricated Bachmann ‘White People’ Video
August 31, 2011 by Aubrey Vaughan

The blogosphere has been abuzz this week with a video misleading viewers to believe that Rep. Michele Bachmann riles up a campaign crowd in Iowa with the line, “Who likes white people?”

The video was pirated from Robert Stacy McCain’s blog, the Other McCain, after he covered a Bachmann appearance at a rainy August 5th Christian music festival, during which Bachmann shouted to the drenched crowd “Who likes wet people?” She followed the question with a statement to her Christian audience on God’s power over the weather, which was cut from the edited version. The blogger took the video from McCain, added a caption to read “Who likes white people?” and the video instantly became viral thanks to Perez Hilton, CBS News, and Wonkette. Now the blogger who edited the stolen video has removed the video from YouTube and apologized to McCain, but has still damaged the reputation of Bachmann and could face legal repercussions from both her and McCain.

Big Three Nets Ignore Rep. Carson’s Lynching Smear of Tea Party
August 31, 2011 by Matthew Balan

Representative Andre Carson’s inflammatory attack on the Tea Party has yet to have receive any attention from the Big Three networks. As reported by Politico on Wednesday, Rep. Carson accused Tea Party-friendly members of Congress of wanting to bring back Jim Crow and went so far to accuse his colleagues of wanting to bring back lynching: “Some of them…would love to see you and me…hanging on a tree.”

None of the Big Three networks evening programs on Tuesday- ABC’s World News, CBS Evening News, or NBC Nightly News- covered Rep. Carson’s snipe at the Tea Party. The following morning, none of their morning show covered it either.

By contrast, these networks were quick to go after Rep. Joe Wilson after his infamous “you lie!” outburst at President Obama on September 9, 2009. Within 24 hours, then-CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric highlighted the “congressman last night calling a President an outright liar to his face” and stated that this was “just the latest indication of how ugly the debate over reforming health care has gotten.” On NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams trumpeted “the outburst heard ’round the world,” as correspondent Kelly O’Donnell played up the “stunning outburst” and the “fit of anger” displayed by Rep. Wilson. ABC World News’s tease of their story on the Republican’s outburst used an almost identical line: “the shout heard ’round the world.”

AP: Carson Only Used a ‘Lynching Metaphor’ in Black Caucus Speech
August 31, 2011 by Tom Blumer

Using a time-honored establishment press technique, an unbylined Associated Press report out of Indianapolis this evening … twisted the real news about Congressman Andre Carson’s inexcusable, hateful comments at a Congressional Black Caucus-sponsored event in Miami on August 22 by making the story largely about the reaction to what he said. By doing so, the AP largely diverted attention from Carson’s clear primary targets: Tea Party-sympathetic congressional colleagues.

The AP report also opens by contending that what Carson said was only a “metaphor.” Really.
