Scheduling And Resource Planning - Frequently Asked Questions

What is Finite Capacity Scheduling?

Finite scheduling schedules your work load according to the available capacity and any given constraints or rules that have been applied to the resources used. It should be noted that in either case it is the labour and machine resource capabilities that are scheduled not the material resource.

What is Infinite Capacity Scheduling?

Infinite scheduling occurs where the work load is scheduled with no reference to the available capacity or resource. It assumes that no other work is scheduled for that resource at that time. The scheduler ignores all existing, current and future loads that might occur when determining the loading position.

Work that requires the same resource at the same time is shown as being “stacked”. The situation arises that on the first day of the time period there is a 500% overload but on the next subsequent time slots the load is zero, this can be seen if the loading is looked at in detail.
