Trade Secrets for Achieving Success in Organizational Change Implementation
Chances are
you and your organization are in the midst of significant, fundamental
change - or you very soon will be.
Today’s business reality is that - given competitive pressure, customer demands, regulatory requirements, supply upsets, and technology breakthroughs - change is no longer the exception. Today, change is now the Rule.
And if change is the rule, then we’d better get really good at it! Unfortunately 80% of change initiatives fail to meet expectations. This includes...
- information technology projects,
- quality projects like six sigma,
- process improvement projects like re-engineering or lean manufacturing,
- mergers and acquisitions,
- customer relationship management systems,
- etc. etc.
Only 20% of these change initiatives succeed. So today’s business reality is: The world is awash in change yet few people and few organisations handle change well.
But there’s good news.
Although not widely practiced, the science of organizational change is very well understood. And by applying the principles presented on this website in your own business enterprise you can dramatically improve your chances for success. Think of what a powerful weapon this can be. Even moderate levels of success can provide vast competitive advantage for your organization … and for your career.
And all you need to know is right here.
The First Secret
The first key concept: Organisational change is managed in layers. Actually, we have four layers in our change management model. This may be surprising to you. Typical approaches focus on the roles that they think is “most important” - which might be change leadership. Others focus on communication within the change initiative. Some deal only with coping with change at the individual level. Do you need all four?
Well, let me ask you something: There are at least four different layers in a human being, including an electrical level, a hydraulics level, a chemical level, and a circulatory level; which is the most important?
The fact of the matter is that unless all are functioning well we are doomed to die. So do you need all four? The answer is: Yes!
Unless all levels are addressed adequately your initiative will fail. And some areas that are particularly well addressed cannot compensate for others that are completely neglected. All four layers have to be addressed adequately. Overly simplistic approaches to change that address only one layer will never get you where you want to be.
The Change Agent
And actually in addition to these four, there is another important component that is often forgotten: the change agent. The change agent must orchestrate each of these layers effectively to implement change successfully. Our approach to change is comprehensive, systematic and highly successful.
