It was from my love of bird watching and that of being an enthusiastic aircraft photographer  the term Harrier was chosen. Must be something to do with flight I think.

I bought my first cine camera in 1979 but when I started Harrier Videos in the 80’s filming and editing was all about VHS tape. By using two VHS editing decks with flying erase heads the cuts and sequences were made manually. The process was extremely tedious and time consuming. It was not until digital technology appeared that editing on personal computers was available as set up costs previously restricted this to mainstream broadcast and production companies. This made editing much more pleasurable, hence the term Digital.

HDVSMedia (Harrier Digital) was chosen as a corporate name.

Since those days technology has made leaps and bounds with even consumer digital editing suites quite capable of producing very professional results. Things still progress at quite a pace with the high definition format used widely in broadcast today. Some modern consumer camcorder and DSLR models are evolving in this field too and with the technology in smart phones, HD is becoming available to almost everyone. It begs the question where we will be in perhaps five years time. 3D seems to be the show star at the moment and no doubt the technology will progress to eliminate the spectacle wearing. The buzz for 2013 are the new 4k cameras - awesome.

However, I am often asked what would be the best camera or software to use to get great results. The answer is the same as it was at the turn of the last century when moving images were in its infancy. It is the operator of the equipment, his expertise, his artistry, creativity, vision and flair that will make the difference. That is why when you see a professional wedding video, for instance, it will be a world away from the attempts of ‘Uncle Bob’ to capture those treasured memories.

I take the responsibility of being ‘professional’ very seriously to ensure that any dealings that you have with Harrier Digital are a positive experience.
