The doctor told me acid reflux when I called the hospital last night but I woke up again in the middle of this night choking and gagging and sputtering like I was about to die it almost gave my partner a heart attack. I just am so tired and scared to sleep right now as it just stopped and I took 3 tums and I don't want to take anymore as they didn't help one bit all I know is I have a nasty taste in my throat and on my tongue when I wake up and then all of a sudden I am sputtering and gagging on some acid and my airway closes. Last night it was really terrible where I felt I may pass out of just quit breathing all together as I almost did and today it was managable but there is no time to transition as I just wake up in heaves and want to vomit terribly. I don't know what to do about it so any advice would be really appreciated please let me know okay!

That would be reflux my dear. It is nasty. I have had several episodes where I wake up gasping and choking on acid. I agree with the PP you may need more than Tums. Ask your doctor which over the counter acid meds would be right for you. Good luck, I hope it gets better soon!

My dr. told me to take Pepcid.  It has helped me a lot.  I take one whenever I think I'm going to eat something spicy.  One night I fixed cheese crisps and put this mild green taco sauce on mine.  I don't consider that spicy at all so I didn't take the Pepcid but my stomach does.  I was up with heartburn so bad that night.  Ended up sleeping in the recliner most of the time.  I have never had it before so I was surprised to get it this time.  Seems this pregnancy is giving me lots of new things to deal with Doh!.  Wish it wouldn't.

As for the choking.  I get that even if I'm not having heartburn.  It's like excess saliva in my mouth, which is a pregnancy symptom, that I don't swallow while I'm sleeping and then it goes down the wrong way or something.  I really hate it because it does make me feel really terrible.  That feeling of not being able to catch your breath is no fun.

Hope you get relief soon.

It isn't the type of choking that you would on food it's more because my airway closes and my doctor said it's because of a reflex the airway closes to keep out the acid. I appreciate all the information so thank all of you for letting me know about your experience. It's nice to know I'm not crazy or the only one who feels this problem. I will definately look up gerd because I seen it multiple times online. I pray my doctor prescribes something because this is so bad it occured multiple times yesterday and it's ridiculous seriously.

The safest way to co-sleep! Fully height-adjustable so little one can be right by your side, and rotates 360° to make it easy to get in and out of bed.
