Southern Network Television – SUN TV (Pakistan)

26Jun10

Today , my local cable TV service was down …. A boring weekend !! uggghhhh … I asked myself , why should I be dependent on “local” cable operator when “SUN TV” and “PTCL Smart TV” are available in town.

So as a next step I went online and visited Sun TV website ( http://www.suntv.org  ). I wonder, why these companies don’t publish packages on their websites?

For customers convenience, I am posting the current Sun TV package available in Karachi:

Digital Receiver + Outdoor Antenna : Rs 8,500
Total TV Channels : 50
Monthly: 350 ( 3/6month subscription options also available online)
Refund on dis-continue: Rs 1,000-2,000 depending on Reciever returned (Actually it is a cost of receiver that Sun TV pay you back)
One Receiver only works with one TV set. If you want to connect another TV with independent Channel Watch , you will need to add another digital receiver for Rs 6000. Similarly, add additional Rs.350 for monthly subscription.

So in total , with one TV = 8,500 + 350 = 8,850 for first month and 350 every month for only 50 Channels.
Similarlyfor two TV sets = 8500+6000+350+350 = Rs. 15,200 ( for first month) and 700 every month for 50 channels.

I don’t understand, what kind of consumers is SUN TV focusing ….?? when a local cable TV wala gives you 100+ channels with only 250 monthly rent. Yes, local one goes offline sometimes but not often. this is the only drawback. Local only charges Rs 200 for additional TV sets( if you want separate connection). No deposit , no security …. NOTHING !! and you are up with 100+ channels.

My next post on this topic will cover PTCL’s smart TV.

Till then , evaluate and do comment, isTHISok?
