may 3, 2010. a magic date for about 4 million geocachers on this planet.
10 years ago it started. and now we have over 1,000,000 active caches. imagine where we will be in 10 years!
this geocoin will be the first to feature an individual QR code. scanning it takes you directly to the concerning coin listing page! logging coins was never easier.
there are two basic versions of this coin (concerning mainly the back):
original QR code version
groundspeak version with gc.com logo
both these versions have own prefixes and separate icons.
explanation of the coin:
front: small circles: 10 cache icons of the most common caches: traditional, multi, earth, event, mega event, letterbox, virtual, mystery, wherigo, cito. three further icons are small on the top: ape, webcam, locationless. gps maze is not depicted.
back:word “geocaching” (has 10 letters) around, years 2000 to 2010 (from small to big, symbolizes the growth of geocaching), some happy splashes, p.lus an individual quick response code (QR).
on the splashes, there are 1 to 5 stars both on the left and right side, standing for difficulty and terrain rating. “may 3”, the birth day of geocaching, is on the very top, however on a recessed level and not visible on all coins.
