Welcome

The annual scientific meeting of SPANZA is the premier paediatric anaesthesia meeting in Australasia, and the 2007 meeting boasts many firsts.

This will be the first SPANZA meeting held on the west coast of Australia. The organisers have chosen Fremantle as an exciting venue that will give delegates a very different experience to any other Perth meetings they may have attended. The stunning venue is on the harbour in the port city of Fremantle. Although Fremantle is part of the Perth metropolitan area, it is very different to Perth in lifestyle, ambience and activity.

Our keynote speaker, Dr Walid Habre is from the Geneva Children's Hospital. He is well known and regarded in the paediatric anaesthesia community in Europe, and will offer delegates a new perspective on a range of topics. This will be the first SPANZA meeting that does not have the keynote speaker from England or North America!

We are also fortunate that through the generosity of our platinum sponsor, Kimberly Clark, this meeting will be the first to have a sponsored overseas speaker, Dr Andreas Gerber from the University Children's Hospital, Zurich.

In yet another first, there will be workshops on the Saturday afternoon at this year's meeting. These will be 'hands-on' and held in the Medical School building of Fremantle's University of Notre Dame.

The conference includes some free time each afternoon to explore Fremantle either by oneself, or with partners or colleagues. Consider visiting the museum's displays, which include tours of an Ovens-class submarine, or sampling Fremantle's historic architecture, cappuccino and restaurant strip, or an aquatic activity such as a dolphin tour, river trip, off shore fishing charter, or even kite surfing lessons.

On behalf of SPANZA, we invite you to attend what will be a most memorable and enjoyable meeting in Fremantle.

In view of the anticipated popularity of the meeting and workshops, early booking is strongly recommended.

The Red Bull Air Race is being held in Perth over the same weekend as our meeting. The air race will draw a large crowd to Perth. Your travel arrangements for the meeting should be made early.
