Hey Arnold!

Hey ArnoldEvery time I heard the theme tune to this show I knew I’d be hooked for the next half an hour! The guy with the “football head” was a hero to kids my age, and I learnt more life lessons from Arnold and the gang than any teacher or Sunday school priest.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m on about, “Hey Arnold” used to be on Nickelodeon and CITV and it was about a youngster called Arnold and his friends.

In each episode Arnold would end up helping (usually hindering) his friends in all sorts of kid-related issues, such as getting a baseball back when it landed in someone’s garden or finding a bag full of money whilst dressed as a banana. Only one of these actually helped me growing up in Mid Wales, but his heart was always in the right place.

Even so “Hey Arnold” was a great show, and probably most memorable for two reasons. It firstly drew my attention to the problem of stalking, as Arnold had a secret admirer called Helga who used to collect pieces of his hair and made a bubblegum model of him in her shrine hidden in her wardrobe.

Her dismissive attitude to Arnold (the age old hate = love rule) has helped me in many girl-related situations but yet no girl has made a shrine for me, well that I know of anyway…

And also Arnold had my dream bedroom. It was an absolute design masterpiece and nothing Changing Rooms could ever have dreamt of pulling out of the bag. Despite living in his grandparents’ boarding house he had an attic room which was only accessible by pulling a cord so the stairs lowered. It had a transparent ceiling and furniture that came out of the walls. It was spacious and plus there was even room for his pet pig.

All in all a quality show and in these days where role models such as John Terry and Tiger Woods are falling by the wayside, Arnold is your man.

quite simply the cartoon that sums up my childhood in the 90s.

exactly 100 episodes made, exactly 100 episodes watched; i used to covet his bedroom, glass ceiling, pure tech.

Did you know that you can watch all of those episodes on Netflick. I’m actually watching them now. It brings back so much memories, both of having watched them already and just my childhood in general. It memories like this that make me sure wish I can turn back the clock of time.

I am the youngest person living in a boarding house, so I threw on a green sweater, gray pants, and tried to make my room futuristic. Alas, no one notices or finds it as hilarious as I do!

By the way, please follow me back. I have more zebra jokes than anyone.
