Ok so you have vista and you install all the updates but one thing you will notice is that there is a new driver out for your network adapter, you go to install this new update and suddenly everything has gone mental and you keep dropping out constantly.
Your problem is the new driver you need to revert back to the original driver and disable the Updated driver within windows update so vista doesn’t install this again.
You say to yourself “no it isnt” trust me it is, i spent days figuring this out and i thought to myself i will just revert my network driver back and see if that does anything and it did.
Go to Device Manager, the under network adapters right click the adapter and go to properties. Next click the driver tab and click roll back Driver, once done restart and you should now notice that it doesn’t drop out anymore i have tested this and it works 100%.
If the Roll Back Driver box is grayed out you will need to open system restore and roll back your system to the time you installed the driver but i seriously recommend that you back up anything that was installed after you updated the driver other wise your going to have problems running applications :p

i recently got a new laptop (last week) and it came with vista, for the first day it was fine then i installed the update..then my connection started dropping..
it was rather frustrating as it would cut out randomely..
i rolled back the driver about 10 mins ago and it has yet to go down, hopefully i havnt spoken too quickly..
im glad i decided to google the problem…
lol, i just realise this was posted yesterday..if i remember correctly on friday i was googling the problem also and couldnt find any solutions..

Completely innafective for me. Same problem as always.
My roll back option is grayed out and I’m not going to restore to an old system restore. Any idea if MS acknowledges this problem and/or is working on fix? I have a dual boot system and when I’m in Linux, I keep the connection 100% of the time.
My Roll Back was grayed out, so I tried the system restore option. Not only does my wireless connection still have issues, but the restore failed several times while being set to a different date each time.
Did nothing for me either.

so i just went to device manager and went to properties on my wireless adapter after that i just asked it to update the driver and search for it over the internet.

I followed the directions Johnathan mentioned at the beginning, but when I get to the device manager > properties, I do not have the driver tab option.

worked 4 me….
Seems to have worked for me. 60% signal strength is all I ever see, but that is the value whether I’m 5 feet from my wireless router or 100 feet away. (then the connection drops, as expected.) I did see 100% before rolling back the driver, so I’m speculating that the signal strength read out is wrong. But who cares, it seems to stay connected now. Thanks.
I spoke too soon. After more hours, the Vista wireless behavior of dropping out and not automatically logging in resumed. A friend of mine suggested I update the driver. Vista makes this pretty easy to do. So I did. And now everything is fine. It automatically logs in when I power the machine up and it shows 100% signal strength when I’m close to my wireless access point. My machine is a Gateway MT6920 with 3 GB of RAM.

Thanks I have been fighting with this for a while. I was ready to buy a new laptop and router. I only had a problem when I used a lot of bandwidth. I will refer others to this article as there are ton of others with the same problem I have found.

Seems to work! Tried everything from updatng bios, rollig back flash to flash 9, disabling java script in ie7 and numerous alterations to my wireless settings. Hope this is a permanent fix! thanx jonnyw1989!

Hey.. Okay I dunno if anyone found a solution, BUT here is some IMPORTANT additional info while that Mastiplaza someone posted above loads for me…
1) Definately Vista, incase people still think it has to do with anything else such as ehternet card or cable modems (although the problem may be in how Vista works with such hardware)
2) It is definately a problem where when huge chunks of info are sent, the more information that’s crammed into your system from a rich site such as an ONLINE GAME loading, the better the chance of being booted offline completely and needing to reset modem, etc.
ARE YOU LISTENING, MICROSOFT???
3) It is definately NOT your internet service provider.
Windows 98SE forever! All hail the only complete windows OS! (and yes it is still the FASTEST performer and WAS completely capable of handling any new technology with simple updates… Real reason for 98se support termination = New Microsoft plot to eventually remove all user control and user “friendliness” so that we need to pay their “qualified” technicians to fix the smallest of issues and to make it more difficult for the average “Joe” to learn Windows on his own… but… That’s beside the point.)
Note: I stay online with no problems visiting small sites like yahoo.com, email, etc., but IMMEDIATELY (within 15 seconds) lose connection to the internet on Vista Home Premium SP2 X64 when loading an online videogame’s vast directx environment.
(That was important to know for troubleshooting purposes).

You can roll back the driver without doing the System Restore, if you have the original Installtion software which came with your Network adaptor.( Manufacturer CD)
To do this go to control panel, Device Manager, Hardware and Devices, Network Adaptors and Double Click your network adaptor. Under the drivers tab Uninstall the device. Close all tabs, Shut down and restart, And then install the device again using the original installtion software. This will work if the problem is with the drivers.
