About the Trust

Aims

Our focus is primarily on helping groups to support those experiencing problems such as homelessness, physical or emotional abuse, exclusion because of race or religion or are otherwise isolated and stressed. Initiatives which enable people to improve their situation for themselves or aim to prevent difficulties arising are particularly welcome..

About us

The Trust was founded with the proceeds from the sale of Bystock Court. This money is now invested in ethical funds managed by CCLA. The regular income it provides enables us to respond to applications and we hope this will continue despite the current adverse economic conditions.

Since the start of the Trust in 2003 to April 2020 we have granted over £373,000. The average grant this year was £2,000, mostly distributed to organisations based in Exeter and East Devon. Occasionally we make grants to national organisations that work with people in our locality.

Some of the organisations we have supported recently are

  • Refugee Support, Devon – towards their new immigration and advice service
  • RECOOP – for the care and resettlement of older prisoners
  • Open Door, Exmouth – towards providing emergency support during the pandemic
  • Age UK Exeter – providing various support for isolated and vulnerable older people
  • Changing Tunes – music rehabilitation programme at Exeter prison

If you would like to make a request for funding please see Applying for a Grant.
