Yachts
The yacht section of KDMES sails model yachts at Weecher Reservoir, which is probably the largest water area for sailing model racing yachts in West Yorkshire. It is located in High Eldwick, Bingley on the Otley road between East Morton and Menston. Click
here for a map and detailed directions. On Wednesdays between 18th April and 12th September we race IOM class from 2 until 5pm and then DF95 class from 6:30pm. Sunday racing starts at 11am with IOM and DF95 classes alternate weeks. If you are interested in sailing why not come and join us? The lake is very high and exposed, so we advise plenty of warm clothes and strong shoes. Launching is from a small jetty. Should the sun make an appearance, you will be looking straight at it on part of the course, so sunglasses are useful. The clubhouse is in the car park with brewing facilities and toilet. Please note, the reservoir is owned by Yorkshire Water and use of the reservoir and immediate property is regulated by them.

Club sailing takes place on Wednesdays and Sundays from April to September. Sailing days are readily identified by a windsock flown at the reservoir. |

Members of the club sail several classes of yacht,
IOM, Dragon Force RG65,
and Micro Magic. On
Weecher, competitions in these classes are held at National, District and Club level. Other competition venues and more information about Model Yachting can be found at
www.mya-uk.org.uk. If you wish to sail at Weecher then it is by the usual competition entry or, on non competitive days, you are welcome to join us but please contact first to check we are sailing.
