At 22-years-old in September 2010, I decided to embark on a journey in the form of a blog, Confessions of a Love Addict, to fall in love with myself and stop worrying about being single or having a boyfriend.

I was an editorial assistant at a small business magazine that I hated, living in a small studio in Harlem and barely getting by on my 30K salary. I came to the realization that so much of my attention — and my conversations with every female I knew — focused on men. Dating them. Sleeping with them. Falling in love with them. Calling them. Texting them. I decided it was time to stop caring about guys and instead, start making myself the priority. If I couldn’t love myself single, how could I expect anyone worth anything, to love me?

And so, Confessions of a Love Addict was born.

Over the course of a year, I wrote every single day about everything from bad dates and bad sex to getting over body image ideas and figuring out how to manage my finances and student loans.

Within the first two months, I was featured on the homepage of WordPress and attracted readers worldwide. Since it’s inception, the blog has gained hundreds of thousands of unique visitors and thousands of subscribers and comments. The site has great engagement: people from across the globe submit photos reading the blog as part of “Addicts Unite,”, others write “Dear Boy” stories and “Self-Love” letters around Valentine’s Day.

First off, your blog on There are men? Great read! Better yet, am on that journey too…of falling in love with myself, and learning to like who I am, without apologies. Thought it was odd to be doing that in my late twenties, but I have never felt better! Way to go gal and keep up the blogs, it’s awesome to see the writing on the wall (even after hearing it over and over) Thumbs up!

  15. I really loved every word!… And I really agree with learning how to love yourself with “flaws and imperfections” before looking for love outside. Just then you’ll know exactly what you want and deserve. Really inspiring!.. Will definitely come back! :)
(Hope you read some of my writing in http://iwantbaby.com/blog/ !! I’m kinda new in all this… )

  16. Oxytocin. Our feel good drug, released with the big O. I saw a Dear Abby type Q & A asking about “Will I ever meet Mr. Right if I have casual sex with other guys” ?

The answer was no. By having sex with guys the woman does not really like, she is disengaging sex from love, plus spending time with the wrong guys. One has to save sex for the guys you are crazy about and you want to love. Otherwise you teach yourself to not want sex with guys a woman should marry. And you know that won’t fly. This psychologist said to save sex for relationships, making those few who make it that far a lot more special.

  17. Just read this and I’m already excited to read your blog .. the focus of this blog is really good and could inspire many people that do not love themselves but have the potential too if they read inspiring messages and learn that there is more to life …

    Best regards xx
