New old pattern finds

The last couple of months, I’ve discovered this wonderful thing on TradeMe (a New Zealand based online auction site. Like eBay, but just for New Zealand. It’s awesome. So awesome, in fact, that we don’t really use eBay over here at all!). Various people have started selling vintage patterns through the site! While this was a wonderful thing for my pattern collection, it hasn’t been overly good for my willpower. Quite the opposite, in fact. After all, I told myself I wasn’t allowed to buy any new fabric this year, but I never said anything about not buying patterns, now did I?!?

So yes, I’ve been splurging a little. Ok, maybe a lot. Oops. But they’re all such awesome finds, how could I not?! It’s that whole dilemma of vintage patterns really – if I like it and it’s in my size, I’d better buy it coz I’ll probably never see it again. Lets just say that my collection has expanded by a heck of a lot over the past few months! (In fact, it’s now about four times the size it was before I started my TradeMe searches for vintage patterns. Hmmm.)

Here’s my latest finds, which all arrived in my mail box today.

Butterick 9762

Butterick 9762, date unknown, early-mid 1960’s perhaps?

McCalls 4185

McCalls 4185 from 1953

Home Journal 5609

Home Journal 5609 from an unknown date (late 1950’s?)

McCalls 5005

McCalls 5005 from 1959

Simplicity 3462

Simplicity 3462 from the early 1960’s.

Simplicity 4520

Simplicity 4520 from the early 1960’s.

Simplicity 4891

Simplicity 4891 – date unknown but looks like early-mid 1960’s.

Simplicity 6023

Simplicity 6023 from 1965.

Simplicity 6886

Simplicity 6886 from 1966.

And now, purely for my own records, here’s how much I scored them for! 🙂

I picked up McCalls 5005 and Home Journal 5609 for $18 for the two.
Butterick 9762 and McCalls 4185 came from the same seller, and were $13 for the pair.
Simplicity 4891, Simplicity 6023, Simplicity 6886 and Simplicity 4520 came in a bundle for the princely sum of $6.50. I mainly bought the bundle for Simplicity 6886 – I like the double-breasted short-sleeved jacket and the double-pleated skirt, it’s cute and preppy. 🙂 Simplicity 6023 is actually a maternity dress, but I think the neckline is cute and it shouldn’t be too hard to add some shaping and make it into a nice, wearable style!
Simplicity 3462 came from the same seller as the above four-pack of patterns, and was $9.50. It was actually advertised as a dress, but when I got it, it turns out that it’s a blouse, button-through skirt, and shorts. Not what I was expecting, but still good! I think I’ll be making up the blouse pattern quite soon, as it’s rather cute. 🙂

So there we have it – my latest lot of TradeMe finds! Wonder which one I’ll make up first……
