In an interview in American Cinematographer this month with Terrence Malick’s, DP from The Tree of Life (as well as Mr. Malick’s last 3 films), Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC shares some of the more technical reasons we admire/bow down to this stellar features director and are just in amazement of all he creates. In a nutshell, we’re talking about his use of only the most aesthetically pleasing available light, the most natural performances he can possibly achieve from his actors and just the most free-form and spontaneous style of capturing imagery from the natural world on film that is probably happening anywhere in filmmaking today. The article goes into great detail and is a terrific read for anyone interested in capturing lovely images on film or video. And, as usual, we are in total awe.
