We will never stop learning from Mr. Malick

© Fox Searchlight Pictures, 2011

In an interview in American Cinematographer this month with Terrence Malick’s, DP from The Tree of Life (as well as Mr. Malick’s last 3 films), Emmanuel Lubezki, ASC, AMC shares some of the more technical reasons we admire/bow down to this stellar features director and are just in amazement of all he creates. In a nutshell, we’re talking about his use of only the most aesthetically pleasing available light, the most natural performances he can possibly achieve from his actors and just the most free-form and spontaneous style of capturing imagery from the natural world on film that is probably happening anywhere in filmmaking today. The article goes into great detail and is a terrific read for anyone interested in capturing lovely images on film or video. And, as usual, we are in total awe. Thank you American Cinematographer for publishing this wonderful interview. And thank you Emmanuel Lubezki and, of course, Terrence Malick for being so completely inspiring!
