MUSIC FONTS

Tip: if you install Scorch, it will install the Sibelius Opus and Inkpen2 fonts automatically.
  • Finale Fonts - download MakeMusic!'s Notepad program which contains all the standard FInale fonts,and use these fonts in Sibelius!
  • Bayard-Nizet has developed a set of 12 new music fonts for Mac and PC (both Postscript and True-type versions are available). These fonts cover a variety of notational symbols from common to the more esoteric. Choose from Virtuoso, Charleston, Grupetto, Staccato, Vivace, Espressivo, Koechlin, Fingering, Ars Nova, Flamenco, Oratorio and Timpani.
  • Boulez font - is a freeware music font (suitable for use in Sibelius) provided by Phillip Gaskill that has short square beams instead of the usual curly flags on individual notes of less than a quarter note(crotchet) value.The following downloads are available: Windows .zip, Mac OS9 .sit, and Mac OSX .dmg. The fonts in all the downloads are in the TrueType format. Be sure to read the ReadMe file that is included in each download, for installation instructions.
  • DaFont - thousands of freeware and shareware fonts available for download.
  • Doremi is a shapenote font that has the shapes for the systems used by Aiken, Funk, Walker, The New Harp of Columbia, and The Sacred Harp. Aiken's system is the seven-shape system used by almost all of the modern songbooks using a shape note system.  Order from Karen E.   • ExpressMusic is no longer supporting their three excellent music fonts with a distinctive hand copied look; Ashmusic, Leemusic and Russmusic.
  • FinalFontSolutions by Ansgar Krause - Font solutions for music notation software (used by Breitkopf & Härtel and other publishers). The fonts offer professional design and extremely quick entries. e.g. Figured Bass (Standard and struck-through numbers, accidentals, brackets ...), Piano Fingering (Stacked Numbers and round brackets, silent changes, square brackets for special thumb situations...) and more... For Macintosh and Windows operating systems through XP.
  • GoldenAge music fonts by Donald Rice. Anixter Rice Music Service - Suite 1410-D, 6309th Avenue New York, NY 10036
  • Identifont - this unique online service allows you to match an existing typeface, or identify a typeface you have seen in a publication. Most of the major type libraries are supported, including Adobe, Berthold, Bitstream, FontFont, and P22.
  • Matthew Hindson has created some very useful and unique music fonts for both Mac and PC. Clefs, Harp Pedals, Saxophone Fingerings, Recorder Fingerings, and more. Freeware.
  • Microtonal Font - Andrian Pertout has created two versions of this freeware font, with the first, 'MicrotonalFont' (TT, PS) originally intended for use in Finale,but which Sibelius users may find useful as well, and the second,'Microtonal FontText',(TT, PS) intended for use in any standard wordprocessor.Included are the five standard accidental signs of Western music;four common quarter-tone and three-quarter-tone symbols; twenty-three unique symbols based on Daniélou’s division of the whole-tone; Ali Naqi Vaziri’s notation system, or four accidentals of Persian music; Johnston’s system of notation, which contains twenty-three unique symbols for the notation of just intonation up to the thirty-first harmonic; as well as Fokker’s nine symbols for the notation of thirty-one equal temperament. All these symbols have been incorporated into a 238-character microtonal notation PostScript Type 1 (PS) or TrueType (TT) font, which is fully compatible with the Opus / Maestro fonts used in music notation applications.   • MidiDesign - by Christian Texier (French language website). Six free music fonts: Acoustica, Concreta, Controla, Electronica, Microtona and Sonora. Includes lots of symbols for electronic music, microtonal sharps and flats, percussion etc. The fonts are very good quality, and there also is a free catalog explaining the usage. Available for Mac and PC.
  • MusiQwik, MusiSync, Bongos, FretQwik, and NoteHedz are free TrueType music fonts created by Robert Allgeyer. Use them in Finale, or a word processing document. The most recent version will be available for a limited time from the links here and here.
  • Nor Eddine Bahha (co-author of JAZZOLOGY) has created three different music symbols fonts for use with Sibelius™. These fonts are designed to produce handwritten music in a style similar to that of many jazz charts. NorMusic font set; NorMusic, NorText & NorText Extra. BopMusic font set includes a complete script font for text, chord symbols, and hundreds of symbols for jazz and commercial music. The BopMusic font set includes 7 accompanying fonts to help transform the overall appearance of the music and titles; BopMusic, BopMusic Script, BopMusic Chords, BopMusic Text, BopMusic Special, BopMusic Metronome, and BopMusic Time. The RealScore font set includes 11 accompanying fonts to help transform the overall appearance of the music and titles; RealScore, Metronome, RealScore Time, RealScore Marks and RealScore Title.
  • Numero font was created by Lars-Anders Calrsson, who works at the "Artisten, Huset for Musik och Teater" in Gothenburg Sweden. Freeware.
  • Realbook Chords, New Realbook Chords & Realbook Title are music fonts (Windows TrueType) in the style of the famous Jazz Real Books for use in Sibelius. Created by Jochen Pietsch. Freeware.
  • Really Loud Fonts by Arun Konanur. Music fonts include the Partitafont, which emulates the printed look of the Score music publishing program. Please contact Robert Puff at RPM Seattle if you have any information about where to currently obtain these fonts.
  • Salzedo Harp Font by Bill Duncan is based on Carlos Salzedo's harp notation standard, and is available for both Mac & PC. Contact Nick Carter at NPC Imaging.
  • Sonata, the venerable music notation font, is available from Adobe.
  • StMeinrad font and its auxiliary, StMeinradAux, contain the symbols necessary to reproduce Gregorian chant. Mac and PC.
  • The Virtual Conservatory has developed chord symbol fonts, available in both Unicode and TrueType formats, for use with both MakeMusic and Sibelius music-notation products: ChordSymbol 2 for traditional music and JazzSymbol 1 for commercial music.

  • The Music Notation Project - An international association exploring alternative music notation systems that improve upon traditional music notation, and providing resources for the wider consideration and use of these alternative notation systems.
  • MOLA - the Major Orchestra Librarian's Association was founded in 1983 primarily to help improve communication among orchestra librarians. The Association's other objectives include educating and assisting librarians, presenting a unified voice in publisher relations and providing education, support, and information to performing arts and other music service organizations.
  • MPA - Music Publisher's Association of the United States.

  • The Sibelius Help Central plugin page features a number of useful freeware plug-ins for Sibelius written by Bob Zawalich, Neil Sands, Roman Molino Dunn, Gunnar Hellquist, Michael Kilpatrick, François Frère and others.
  • Bob Zawalich maintains an alphabetical listing with links all of the plugins for Sibelius he has written which appear on the Sibelius plugins download page.
  • Dolet for Sibelius is a file translation plug-in for Sibelius by MichaelGood of Recordare. Dolet uses a markup language called MusicXML to allow you to import music from SCORE, Overture, Igor Engraver, Finale and a growing list of music notation applications.
  • Garritan Personal Orchestra - A comprehensive, inexpensive and easy-to-use orchestral sample Library.  Extremely high quality collection of orchestral instruments,and a great value. Garritan also makes the JABB sample library for jazz and big band.
  • Peter Hayter has written a number of useful Sibelius plugins found on the Sibelius Plugins Page, including Extract PhotoScore Lyrics.
  • Neuratron - Developers of the advanced music scanning software Photoscore which provides optical score recognition for Mac & Windows, allowing you to scan printed music into your computer. A version of Photoscore comes bundled with Sibelius.
  • PDF TO MUSIC PRO is a revolutionary product from Myriad Software that translates PDF files created by other music notation programs into MusicXML format. It knows that staff lines are lines and that noteheads are noteheads because it reads the actual lines and font character information in the file, so it doesn't have to guess if some group of black dots on a page should be a slur or a notehead. The results are far more accurate translations than have ever been possible before. If you have files in Mosaic, Overture, Professional Composer, Logic, Cakewalk or other apps where MIDI has been your only option to translate into Sibelius, this is a must-have companion application.
  • Roman Molino Dunn has written a number of useful plugins for Sibelius. In addition to his contributions to the Sibelius Help Center PluginPage, he has a number of plugins available on his website.
  • Simkin in Sibelius - detailed explanation of the Sibelius ManuScript™ plug-in scripting language. The ManuScript plug-ins language enables users to easily write scripts for extending Sibelius' functionality.
  • Sibelius Control is a Custom Keypad Layout for the iPad app called Custom Keypad. Designer Tobias Escher (@NovatlanSound) designed the layout for quick access to any function you will need for regular work in Sibelius. You can even access Engraving Rules, Document setup and other layout Control features.
