Classic Chevy trucks of the Advanced Design series represent the most widely available model of classic Chevy pickups in the world today. These trucks were made between 1947 and 1955 and sold very well all over the world. They first came out at the end of June, 1947 and the last model with small modifications was sold in 1955.
If you compare the 1946 model of the Chevy pickup with one of the Advanced Design series you’ll see that they are really two completely different vehicles. The new cab was wider and had a more comfortable bench seat that could accommodate three adults. The windshield and the side windows were bigger and allowed for better vision. The dimensions of the Advanced Design cab were all bigger than the previous model.
Another welcome improvement in the Advanced Design series was the heater/defroster system which allowed fresh air to enter from the outside to circulate around the driver and passengers and exit through vents placed at the rear of the cab.
The original Advanced Design series trucks were produced from 1947 through 1953 with very subtle changes. For 1954 and the first series of 1955 the designers came up with an entirely different front grille, a one-piece panoramic windshield and a new dashboard. Another big change was in the sides of the cargo bed which became taller than the previous model.
One of the reasons why we see so many classic Chevy trucks of the Advanced Design series everywhere today and so many of these classic trucks for sale is that these pickups were best sellers from the moment they came out to the last day they were made. Sales were phenomenal not only in America but all over the world.
Today, through the magic of restoration, it’s easy to find great looking classic Chevrolet trucks anywhere in the world. Some of them look better now than they did when they came out of the showroom floor!
