From what he has told me (and he has lost family in the Darfur crisis): The whole thing has just about squat to do with religion. It’s about a power hungry and corrupt government, tribal strife and to the very core a fight about control over natural resources.

Oh PLEASE! I’ll write a more detailed comment later, but for now, I’ll just say cut the crap. Geller is hardly some savior of our civilization, despite her lame photoshop. That makes you almost feel embarrassed for her, having all of that crap out on the web where her kids’ friends find her ranting in bikinis on YouTube. Scarred for life they’ll be!
Pamela Geller and her “efforts” do nothing to defend us at all, she just helps keep this country divided and spreads hatred while also clawing to get her 15 minutes of fame.
They gave her a chance to talk, the only reason they cut her off was that she was doing more talking than was required to answer the questions. She also started the interview with her remark about “the savage”. She’s lucky she didn’t get punched in the nose for that one. Cenk was more than fair, and I’d never seen the Young Turks before, so I’m not just a fan of theirs sticking up for them. I’m just a new fan as of watching this video.

I’m not going to comment on your alleged positions rgarding Muslims and Jews,but as a student of both political science and history,one who subscribes to and actually reads “The Economist”,and the journals “Foreign Affairs” and the “American Interest”,I have to say that you’ve neglected to mention several other very important factors at malicious work in the US today: the “complete failures” of our Congress,our State Legislatures,and ‘We The People’ to FIX the domination of our governments from villages to Washington of highly partisan politicians,single issue voters,and the special interest lobbies.
I wil here address only the first of such, our “professional” Congress. When I worked in the House part-time while in law school as a Legislative Assistant in ’71-’72, Teddy Kennedy was a Senator…and he still is! These people care more about their own personal careers…why else over 8,000 highly localized earmarks inserted into the Obama Stimulus Bill by the Congress…then they do about their “duties”,”obligations”,and “responsibilities” as “representatives of The People” elected to “serve” in “the best interests of the Nation” rather than their States or Constituencies. Now we have a battle royal going on: is Obama going to “lead” the Democratic majorities in Congress…and thus the Nation…or are they going to “dictate” to him? I was never worried so much about Obama getting elected President as I was about the Democrats controlling Congress with a Democratic President who is a “party” man,wants 2 terms,and needs their support to get there. Why? Because it is on Capital Hill,not in the White House where MOST of the decisions that affect the day-to-day lives of the majority of Americans are made. Let’s not simply raille at the President,Tim Geithner,the failed “Regulatory” and “Oversight” beauracracy, the banks and the “AIG bonuses”,as well as the Fed! Let US,the PEOPLE,make our voices heard in the Congress…ENOUGH ALREADY! Enough “earmarks”, waste, and corruption for which they are at fault! Enough purely political “partisanship” and “bickering” and more “cooperation” and “vision” to properly deal…not just “deal”…with the economic crisis and get this country back on track regarding all of the things you discuss in your essay! Enough pandering by them to the sensationalizing media and polaring pundits (a whole other story)!
In the end,if the “shit hits the fan” due to the economic crisis Obama will undoubtedly be blamed. But it will really be the fault of the Congress! It’s about time that the American People wake up and face this reality…and then do something about it.
