The Moth and Me Blog Carnival

The Moth and Me

What?
The Moth and Me is a blog carnival dedicated to bringing to light (pun intended) these forgotten lepidopterans. Here we share our experiences with the moths we encounter, our mothing activities, and the people we meet along the way. Anything and everything to do with moths belongs here.

Why?
Moths are delightful creatures that can be seen by anyone, anywhere. They’ll come to you simply by placing a light outside, allowing you to enjoy their incredible diversity and splendour up close and personal. There are over 10,000 species just in North America alone, some of which are incredibly striking or colourful. But because of their primarily nocturnal habits, moths are undeservingly overlooked. The goal of this carnival is to encourage appreciation of this amazing group of insects and share our experiences with them with others.

When?
Every month, once a month, on the 15th of the month, from March until November.

Where?
We’re trying out something new for The Moth and Me, and sending it roaming. Each carnival will hopefully be hosted at a different blog. This could be yours! If you would like to volunteer to be a host send me an email at sanderling [at] symbiotic [dot] ca. Check out the list of previous carnivals and upcoming hosts in the sidebar. Months that are looking for a host are indicated there. You benefit from hosting a blog carnival in the increased exposure it brings your blog, it can be a great way to find and win new readers. Not to mention the fun you’ll have putting it together!

Who?
Even though the carnival is hosted by NAMBI, The Moth and Me is open to residents the world over, not just North Americans. Anybody who has written about moths on their blog can submit a post to the carnival. Feel free to also submit blog posts by others that you think the carnival readers would enjoy. For the purposes of this carnival, a blog is a chronological set of postings, often associated with WordPress, Blogspot, Typepad, and other similar platforms. Flickr images are only accepted if there is substantial written content associated with the image – a story or explanation about the subject that would be the equivalent of a post on a blog.

How?
Choose a post that you would like to include in the next edition of The Moth and Me. Send the link to that post to sanderling AT symbiotic DOT ca on or before the 13th of the month. Late submissions cannot be guaranteed to be included. Check back on the 15th to read the current edition, and make sure you post a link to it from your own blog if you have a post included!
